Netflix’s One Piece Live Action has exceeded everyone’s expectations. The One Piece team knew that the show would be a hit when they saw Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy at the time. Most people have already watched the series, while others have lined it up in the watchlist section. Everybody wants to experience the pirating world, and we cannot blame anyone.
One of the best things about One Piece Live Action is the presence of Eiichiro Oda in the production and development team. He personally looked at the auditions to finalize the cast. Thanks to him, the whole One Piece team was stunned after looking at Iñaki Godoy dressed as Monkey D. Luffy. There was pin-drop silence around the set.
One Piece Director Reveals His First Experience With Iñaki Godoy
Iñaki Godoy is one of the few luckiest people in the world who got to play their favourite character. He also got to meet Eiichiro Oda in person and got to know that his audition tape made him laugh and reminded him of the legendary mangaka of Monkey D. Luffy. But it was Marc Jobst, One Piece Live Action director, who revealed how perfect Godoy looked in Luffy’s outfit.
Marc Jobst said to ComicBook.com,
“When Kiki came and Yaki came out with his hat and his red vest and his shorts. It was almost like the whole of Cape Town Studios went quiet. Because it was like, oh my God, we’ve got a show here. He looked 100% the part. And of course he’s got such energy and such humor and such warmth and such loving his heart as a human being.”
He also said that when Emily Rudd and Mackenyu came out of their caravan, people thought that the latter two needed a bit of brushing up. When Iñaki Godoy came out as Luffy, everyone was shocked. He looked exactly like the part he was going to play. Iñaki Godoy redefined perfection.
