After the huge success of the Netflix live-action adaptation of One Piece, fans have already started wanting more from the creators and are eagerly waiting for season 2. The storyline, characters, and screenplay of season 1 of the wildly successful series have left the fans in awe and wanting more. Just 1 week after the release of the series, the Internet has bombarded the creators with questions about the next season and what would it hold for the fans. According to reports, the next season will showcase the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates in the Arabasta Saga.
Recently, some speculations have been brought out by Tomorrow Studios, the studio behind the creation of the live-action. The CEO Marty Adelstein has revealed some big news regarding season 2 and the fans can’t keep calm.
Season 2 Scripts are Ready
Marty Adelstein, CEO of One Piece production company Tomorrow Studios, recently told Variety that “we’ve got the scripts ready” for Season 2. Viewers may not have to wait long to see those scripts brought to life if the Hollywood SAG-AFTRA strike against the AMPTP is settled and the contract is renewed. Furthermore, producer Becky Clements feels that once the strike is over, they may have it all wrapped up and ready to go in a year or 18 months.
Giving hype to the speculations CEO Adelstein told Variety:
“Realistically, hopefully, a year away, if we move very quickly, and that is a possibility. Somewhere between a year and 18 months, we could be ready for air.”
If the strikes end this year and move fast, One Piece live-action season 2 could be released as soon as 2024.
One Piece Live Action Season 1 Exceeded Expectations
According to Netflix, the adaptation received 140 million hours of viewing and 18.5 million views in the four days following its August 31 launch. CEO Adelstein believes that Netflix is working on the decision for the series and may reply within a week or two. While talking to Variety, Adelstein said:
“I think [Netflix is] looking at various situations about how many episodes they do, do they break them up? I think they’re trying to figure that out this week. I suspect we’ll hear from them in the next week to two weeks. There seems to be a big impetus to keep this going and to come up with a long-term strategy. So we’re just waiting for that.”
Despite the enormous favorable response from fans, Netflix has yet to announce production and release dates for One Piece Live Action Season 2. Netflix will most likely evaluate One Piece‘s viewership in the coming weeks before choosing whether or not to renew it.
