It’s been a phase to forget for superhero movies across the board. DC Extended Universe could not sustain itself, drawing the franchise to an early end. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going through a lean patch that they don’t have any idea how to deal with.
Some call it superhero fatigue, some lousy writing. The real answer might be a cocktail of both extremes. But in this dry run for superhero flicks, the aficionados of the genre have something to be elated about – the Dark Knight universe might be set to make a comeback.
Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy was a breath of fresh air for fans
The superhero genre was not the phenomenon we know it to be, back in the 2000s. Fans had been treated to the first (or even second) generation of some of the most remarkable superheroes across both Marvel and DC Comics. But one can’t even compare the commercialization prevalent at that time with the success they have achieved in the 2010s.
It was before the MCU and DCEU set the ball rolling that a certain trilogy appeared on the scene. There was no ambitious decade-long plan to create an elaborate universe, no superhero ensembles, no multiverse. But it still set the world on fire. Fans would never witness a superhero flick of the ilk of the Dark Knight trilogy.

Helmed by Christopher Nolan, the trilogy was leagues ahead of its time. The actors, the story, the themes, the background music – everything about the trilogy was perfect. When the trilogy drew to an end in 2012, fans knew that they might never witness something like that ever again.
They couldn’t have been more right. Not to suggest that fans haven’t been treated to superhero movies that have made them swoon. But none can be compared to the Christian Bale starrer trilogy. And if Jonathan Nolan’s hints are anything to go by – all of us have a real chance of getting lucky super soon.

Jonathan Nolan is the man behind Fallout, a video game series whose mere name is enough to strike awe in the hearts of many fans. But the words of the 47-year-old has cheered another set of fans this time – the stans of the Dark Knight trilogy.

The words have sent fans into a frenzy. There is no concrete news about the films. But the mere insinuation is enough to give fans a chance to dream. It is not everyday that you are treated to the rumors of your favorite trilogy marking a comeback after well over a decade.
