In the finale episode of the Disney+ series, What If…? Season 2Captain Peggy Carter has seemingly hinted at Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man survival in the Avengers: Endgame. She was able to wield the Infinity Stones and integrated into her own suit. Not just the Stones but she also possessed Erik Killmonger’s armour which worked similar to that of Tony Stark’s nano-gauntlet. For the unversed, Stark’s gauntlet was specially designed to replicate the Infinity Gauntlet which channelized the power of Infinity Stones in unison.
As she was fighting Strange Supreme, she grabbed all the six Stones in her one fist to punch Strange. However, the interesting part was that Carter suffered no after-effects of wielding the stones.
Carter has been protected by the Super Soldier serum however Killmonger’s armor further gives her additional protection. As she survived the battle despite using the Infinity Stones’s powers, it is likely a possibility that Robert Downey Jr‘s Iron Man would have survived the battle. However, one other factor likely plays a more vital role in Stark’s case.

In Avengers: Endgame, Earth’s superheroes fight the Mad Titan and his entire army as he erases half of the world’s population. Towards the end, every superhero tried their best to separate the purple Titan from the Gauntlet but to no avail. However, it was Iron Man who cleverly took his stones which was something the antaonist never anticipated. As he saves, the world, it surely comes at a hefty price of his own life.
However, Doctor Strange had already viewed many futures from the moment he ran into Iron Man and only one version ended in their favor. As the Endgame was coming to its climax, Iron Man made eye contact with the sorcerer who gestured to share that it was only up to Stark to make it a reality. It was the very reality where Iron Man wielded the Stones.
From Carter’s fight, it can be presumed that Steve Rogers aka Captain America was equally capable of wielding the power stones given that he shared the same superhuman strengths as her. He always has a higher chance of survival than Stark, giving another strong point as to why he would have been a good candidate to wield the stones. However, Stark’s nano-technology was the one thing that allowed him to take and use the stones before the Mad Titan could realize it. What If…? series is available on Disney+.
