After the famous writer’s strike, actors also joined them. While there are people who are advocating for whose side they should pick, certain actors are adamant about the side they want to stand with. Recently, Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One actress Hayley Atwell opened up about her take on this strike. The actress talked in favor of her fellow actors. Atwell, being vocal in her opinion on the SAG-AFTRA strike, said,

“I’m in full support of it. Making sure that people are properly compensated for their time and their talent and their skill; that’s really important.”

The SAG-AFTRA strike began after the WGA strike, in which the writers of Hollywood were outraged for their rights. Before the strike began, Atwell was busy promoting her latest film, Mission: Impossible 7. However, ever since the actors of Hollywood began the strike, the possibility of Atwell seemed to vanish as she has come up with full support for the actors.

The actress further talked about the rights of the actors and described their situation in the industry. She said,

“There is an illusion that if you are seen on telly then you’re fine, but for most people that is not the case. This is not an industry that is thriving it is an industry on its knees.”

Like Atwell, many other actors agree with her statement and support the actors in this strike.

Many A-list actors in Hollywood have come out to support the SAG-AFTRA strike. Succession actor Brian Cox shed light on the necessity of residuals for SAG-AFTRA. Cox said,

“SAG is an excellent union but in the U.S. we don’t have a national health service so what is important to SAG actors is health and they need it. That’s why they need their residuals.”

Selma actor David Oyelowo also had some similar opinions on the ongoing strike. The actor talked about the prevailing inequality in the film industry. Oyelowo said,

“The gap between the haves and the haves not in our industry is widening at an alarming rate. The business has continued to evolve and the means of remunerating the people who actually make the stuff isn’t catching up with the evolution.”

Due to the ongoing strikes, many movie and television businesses are on hiatus. The unions are demanding better pay and the eradication of AI, which may eat up their jobs in the future.
