2022 did not seem very pleasant for the Hollywood star Henry Cavill. The actor announced his departure from the Netflix hit The Witcher after his most awaited return as the DC superhero. While many assumed that he left The Witcher to come back as Superman, things did not go that way. The new co-CEOs soon announced that Cavill would not continue to be the Kryptonian superhero as they are looking ahead to cast a younger Superman in their future projects.

Reports also claimed that the Mission Impossible star did not leave the Netflix series for his return to the DCU, but the reason was something else. And YouTuber Ryan Kinel reflected on the real reason the actor left the show and how his departure may have ruined the whole fantasy drama in his recent video.

Why Did Henry Cavill Leave The Witcher?

Soon after returning as Superman in Black Adam, Henry Cavill announced his departure from the popular Netflix fantasy drama, The Witcher. After starring as the Geralt of Rivia in the series for two seasons, he announced that the upcoming season 3 would be his last take on the character.

However, after James Gunn revealed that the Man of Steel star would not be the Superman under his DCU, fans expected that Cavill would come back to The Witcher.

While the makers are not planning to bring back The Tudors star, reports claimed that Cavill does not wish to return to the show either. Reports claimed that the Enola Holmes star left the show due to his conflicts with the show’s writer. The writers reportedly were not respectful toward the source material.

And being a fan of The Witcher book series, what the writers were doing with his character and the story, was unacceptable for Cavill. And he decided to leave the show. The Witcher season 3 has already been filmed and would be the last time fans would see the Justice League star as Geralt of Rivia.

Fans started petitioning for Netflix to fire the writers and bring Cavill back. But the makers had already found a new star for the show. Soon it was announced that Liam Hemsworth would be the new Geralt, starting with The Witcher season 4. However, things do not seem to be going well for the series, followed by Cavill’s departure.

The Witcher Season 5 Could Conclude the Show

Fans are eagerly waiting to see Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia for the one last time in The Witcher season 3. But it seems like the fantasy drama’s glory days would also come to an end. The Witcher spin-off Blood Origin was released followed by the Stardust actor’s departure from the Netflix show.

The spin-off was not what the makers expected it to be. It went on to receive one of the worst audience scores, and the critics defined it as “meaningless” and “unattractive.”

According to YouTuber Ryan Kinel, The Witcher was expected to have seven seasons. However, the streaming giant is not sure if they could continue it for that long after Blood Origin’s reviews. Redanian Intelligence’s sources also revealed that Netflix is not sure about continuing the show under its original plan.

The YouTuber also shared that the makers are planning to film the next two seasons at the same time in order to prevent the cancellation after The Witcher season 4. Netflix is also taking measures to avoid having another flop series and possibly could axe the series if Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt of Rivia does not receive a positive response.

Netflix has also not confirmed the official release date of The Witcher season 3. It is expected to release in the summer of 2023.
