While many of her fans were left in disbelief over the Razzie nod, the other faction remained steadfast on how it was well-deserved. Nonetheless, the movie surely presented graphic content and an unconventional narrative that didn’t fit well with everyone.

Darren Aronofsky’s directorial was a carefully crafted metaphor, which would make more sense if one knew how to read between the lines. From spine-chilling visuals to a disturbing atmosphere, it would be uncomfortable yet gory for people with weak hearts. The actress herself was aware of how that project would be received among audiences yet she is proud of what she created.

She shared,

It’s certainly not a darling. Every time you make a movie you hope everyone likes it. It’s your only thought. That never crossed our minds. It’s an assault. I think it’s necessary. I’m proud of us, I’m proud of Darren and I’m proud of banding together to deliver something we believe in. That CinemaScore [F]—we’re fine with it.”

However, working on it was never easy as she admitted in the same interview,

“I never lose myself in a movie. This is the only time I’ve lost myself. I couldn’t tell my body that none of it was real. I kept on hyperventilating.”

She even hurt herself while filming a scene in the movie. She told Daily Mail

“I tore my diaphragm for hyperventilating. People thought I was beaten up, so I want to clear it up that I did it to myself.”

While her intense efforts earned her a Razzie nod, she has high regard for her project, which grossed over $44.5 million at the worldwide box office. Besides Lawrence, the movie stars include Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson, and Kristen Wiig.
