Mark Wahlberg is very protective of his children, and when he opened up about his daughter finally dating someone, he felt sort of awkward. In fact, his first meeting with her boyfriend did not turn out the way he imagined.
As a father, Wahlberg only wanted the best for his kids, though it may sound a bit sentimental seeing them growing up and slowly spreading their wings. Still, he managed to play it cool and not scare off the young lad.
Mark Wahlberg Shares Unexpected Encounter With His Daughter’s Beau
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, actor Mark Wahlberg shared a story about his daughter’s personal life and revealed he was totally caught off-guard by her boyfriend.
“I was like, I wanna meet this kid… and then you can hang out with him in a safe environment,’ and she was like, ‘What’s a safe environment, Dad?’ Everything is in the attitude.”
The actor was so surprised the moment the guy came in – he could not believe his daughter’s new beau just outsmarted him. Just when he thought about the unexpected, he suddenly realized the guy was indeed a keeper.
“All of a sudden, this kid comes over, and he one-ups me… he brings his mom! The genius thing is he was so sweet, and [my daughter] is like steamrolling me all the time, and he’s seeing it, like she’s being rude to me and she’s being mean to me, and it’s like, if you’re not nice to him, he may not wanna be around you.”
Wahlberg immediately thought the guy was such a steal and he is the perfect one for his daughter, though he jokingly said at the end:
“I’m like, okay, the perfect scenario is to find one boy that she’s with forever, but I don’t know if she can hold him down!”
Wahlberg shares four children with wife Rhea Durham. The couple met back in 2001, formed an instant connection, and later married in 2009.
Mark Wahlberg Talked About His Daughter Going To An All-Girls School
Mark Wahlberg mentioned during his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show via ET that as much as he wanted to protect his eldest daughter, he and his wife wanted her to enjoy her youth by socializing with people from all walks of life.
“She wanted to go to the all-girls school, and my wife, at first, thought it was a bad idea because my wife gets along with guys better than girls. She was like, girls get too catty, and it’s going to be troublesome.”
In the end, they decided to let her stay in an all-girls campus so they could still watch over her and not worry about boys and all things related.
“But then we realized, you know what, let’s pick our poison. Let’s put her in an all-girls school, and we have at least a couple more years we can kind of protect her. It’s a nice, little, safe environment. So yes, I’m happy about that.”
Now that their eldest is all grown up and finally seeing someone, Wahlberg still has a watchful eye on his daughter just to make sure she’s with the right person.
