A recent report from scooper @CanWeGetSomeToast revealed that David Corenswet will go toe-to-toe with, well, himself, fighting the ultimate battle against his alternate version Ultraman. The rumor further theorized that Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor would play a major role in bringing the DC villain to life as he would successfully clone Superman. If this comes out to be true, the movie will definitely be a banger.

Ultraman possesses ultra powers, much deadlier even for a villain, after all, he is just the embodiment of the Kryptonian hero. Still, they are fairly distinguishable with their appearances, particularly, through costumes— where Superman has an S logo, Ultraman has the U logo to reflect their characters.

The star-studded James Gunn-directed superhero movie which also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl, has already a group of villains. Superman will face Sean Gunn’s villainous Maxwell Lord, Sara Sampaio’s Eve Teschmacher, and María Gabriela de Faría’s The Engineer alongside Lex Luthor.

Who Is Ultraman?

The new DC rumor based on Gunn’s movie does not entirely relate to the comic books. One fan clearly pointed out that “Ultraman isn’t a clone.” Back to Ultraman’s origin, the Superman nemesis first appeared in Justice League of America #29 (August 1964) by (by Gardner Fox, Mike Sekowsky, Bernie Sachs, and Gaspar Saladino. Since then, the character has made several appearances across DC comics as different versions of the evil and corrupted Superman in alternate universes. He is also a member of the Crime Syndicate villain team in the twisted Earth-3. The user who pointed out that Ultraman wasn’t a clone, further detailed the rumor on X.

“He’s [Ultraman] essentially an evil Superman in an alternate universe where the JLA is evil and Luther is a hero. But, if we go down the clone route, it’d be interesting if we get Bizarro as a failed cloning attempt and Ultraman as a corrupted version.”

If the rumor of Ultraman as Superman villain is true, Corenswet will play Ultraman as well. But it would be interesting to see how this pans out. Also, another similar supervillain, a clone of Superman, Bizarro was rumored to make the live-action debut in the Gunn-directed movie.

Superman is slated for the 11 July 2025 release.
