Insomniac Games announced Marvel’s Wolverine in 2021. However, things went silent after that, as there was no information about the game’s development or release window dates. With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on the way, the studio is occupied. However, little information about the upcoming Wolverine game has come to light.

Very little has been known about the game since its announcement until recently when Game Mess Mornings livestream revealed some significant information on his Twitch. Jeff Grubb said many things about this upcoming superhero game from Marvel.

A lot of fans have been anticipating Marvel’s Wolverine game to be hardcore, and Grubb stated at the starting of his stream that Insomniac is going for a “hard-R” or M-rated approach with the game. Albeit producing T-rated games primarily, Wolverine media had to be R-rated since there is a lot of blood and gore.

“These are small tidbits about Wolverine that I’ve been hearing from someone I know that’s been very familiar with [Insomniac] for a very long time. Hard R is what they’re going for from the concepts I’ve heard, which I think is the right move for Wolverine. I think an M-rated Wolverine game can work, I think an M-rated superhero game can work.”

He also specified in his Twitch stream that Wolverine won’t be an open world but more like it’ll have open sections to explore. This typically doesn’t give players as much freedom as they’ve in an actual open world.

It probably won’t be full open world. Well, Spider-Man was. First of all, Spider-Man has a completely different traversal than Wolverine would have. What they’re probably going to end up doing is something closer to open sections of a world. Maybe similar to other modern major Sony games.”

All these should be considered with a grain of salt. However, there have been instances where he got the individual details incorrect. Additionally, an M-rated Wolverine action game would be something to look forward to.

Grubb hinted that players can expect the Wolverine game as soon as Fall 2024. He continued on Twitch stream and said that there could be a possibility of a delay because Spider-Man 2 was on the way this year as well, so players shouldn’t get their hopes up.

“I’ve heard as early as [Autumn] 2024 [Northern Hemisphere], which would be wild. Insomniac is putting out Spider-Man 2 this [Autumn] 2023 [Northern Hemisphere],” Grubb said. “I’ve also heard internally they’re still very much talking about 2025, so let’s not be surprised if that’s what happens. But if anyone can pull off releasing two major, triple-A, massive games in back-to-back years, it is Insomniac.”

Grubb didn’t specify much about the plot or which time period the storyline of the game will take place. This opens a window for different sorts of speculation.
