The release of Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling has been plagued by the drama surrounding the film’s director as well as its leading stars Harry Styles, Florence Pugh, and the now dismissed Shia LaBeouf. The movie, however, has finally been released today after all these months of drama.

Wilde’s new psychological thriller movie has seen it’s ups and down, and fans are not too happy about the downs. Fans have been blasting Wilde for her affair-turned-relationship with her movie’s lead actor Harry Styles, as well as her treatment of Shia LaBeouf, and Pugh’s minimum effort on the promotional side isn’t helping either. However, the movie has been performing impressively on the big screens.

Don’t Worry Darling Has Had An Impressive Start In Theaters

Don’t Worry Darling is finally out and although the drama surrounding the production and release of the movie has been ugly, the review for it have been uglier. The movie is currently holding a 6.1/10 rating on IMDb, a 48% rating on Metacritic, and a 36% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Olivia Wilde‘s movie has also been greatly criticized for being derivative of works that have already told the story that the movie is trying to show its audiences, critics didn’t spare their words either with some calling it repetitive and boring.

But a movie’s criticism alone doesn’t define its success. Don’t Worry Darling has seen a strong start on the first day of its release, starting off with a $3.1 million opening today. The impressive earnings on the first day put it above the ranks of movies like Where The Crawdads Sing ($2.3M) and The Woman King ($1.7M).

The movie will now be aiming towards a $20 million opening week, and if it keeps going like this then it might just be able to earn back the $30 million budget that it received for filming.

Has the drama surrounded the movie’s director and her actors strained relationships between all of them? We do not know, but its commercial performance has been the bomb, and it plans to go on to earn more in the following days.

Her contempt for haters of Don’t Worry Darling has led her to post a story on her Instagram account, in which she simply just asked the haters to leave if they didn’t like it. In the story, Twist typed this out-

If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. I’m astounded and saddened by the vitriolic comments on here to be honest. I enjoyed a film. If it’s not your cup of tea don’t go…If you don’t like me .. please don’t follow me. Simple.”

Twist’s most recent Instagram story had long been coming, since she had been getting negative comments about the movies for quite some time now. And what mother wouldn’t protect her son, regardless of what anyone thinks of him?

Don’t Worry Darling is in theaters.
