Who are ‘The Terrifics’ – James Gunn Teases All New DCU Superhero Team That May Replace Justice League

Who are 'The Terrifics' - James Gunn Teases All New DCU Superhero Team That May Replace Justice League

With director Zack Snyder out of the picture, the Justice League is in disarray. To create a proper cinematic universe, co-head James Gunn must surely need a team of superheroes that can stay in unity and fight the bad guys together and not each other.

This seems to be the case with a rumored upcoming DCU project titled The Terrifics. Based on a similar style to Marvel’s Fantastic Four, The Terrifics is a team of superheroes that explore the Dark Multiverse together. According to co-head James Gunn, The Terrifics may just be the savior that they need to save the DCU from erupting into chaos.

James Gunn’s The Terrifics Is The New Justice League?

After firing or according to James Gunn “never hiring” Henry Cavill, the role of Superman from the Justice League went down the drain. Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman 3 also had a dispute with the higher-ups at the DC Studios which caused her to walk out and leave Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman to her fate. And the cherry on top is that Ben Affleck hasn’t been confirmed yet to continue portraying the character of Batman in the DCU.

After the Justice League team got separated, it seems that James Gunn may have a new idea to restructure the DCU around. Bringing the DCU equivalents of Fantastic Four, Gunn might hint at the possibility of an upcoming project based on The Terrifics.

Taking to his Twitter account, the director shared an image with a plethora of DCU characters. Amongst the various characters like Superman, Aquaman, and more, The Terrifics were highlighted in the photo. With no caption to accompany the image, fans started talking about a rumored The Terrifics project that might someday see the light of day.

Although it is unconfirmed, The Terrifics will only add further chaos into the mix as the Justice League may get replaced without a proper send-off to the team. It does seem chaotic in the mind of James Gunn since he wants a Wonder Woman animated series ever since he joined the DC Studios as a co-head.

With the unconfirmed status of Gal Gadot in the DCU, some fans took to Twitter to demand a Wonder Woman series. Wanting it to be false, a fan asked James Gunn to clarify the rumors and state that there was no such project in progress. Gunn replied with a tweet that he wanted an animated Wonder Woman series ever since he became the co-head of the DC Studios.

Suffice it to say, things don’t seem to be working for the animated series since no confirmed news has been announced. The DCU is currently preparing for the release of Ezra Miller’s The Flash. The movie is set for a release date of 16th June 2023 in theaters across the U.S.
