Netflix’s One Piece Live Action is on the verge of ending 2023 on a high note. The fandom believes it to be great, considering that the people outside the fanbase also love the show. It has been almost five months since the series was released. But it is showing no signs of stopping. One of the main reasons for One Piece Live Action to reach the peak is the presence of Eiichiro Oda.
Oda sensei handpicked the actors, and every one of them was full of praise for the legendary mangaka. But Taz Skylar, who plays Sanji in One Piece Live Action, believes there was another reason why the show was such a success. Because of this factor, previous adaptations like Witcher had failed in the first place.
Taz Skylar Is Full of Praise for Matt Owens
Sanji is one of the very first members of the Strawhats and an integral part of the group. He is the ship’s chef and is considered one of the Monster Trio. Such an important role was given to Taz Skylar, and he delivered it beautifully. Unlike Mackenyu and Emily Rudd, he had little knowledge about One Piece, but he could do justice to the role because of the showrunner, Matt Owens.
During one of the behind-the-camera interviews, Taz Skylar was seen to praise Matt Owens. According to Stream Wars, he said, “Matt (Owens), the showrunner, he’s a super-fan. Who better to make an adaptation than a super-fan.” Taz Skylar believes that he is in the best hands for guidance. Matt Owens is a massive One Piece fan who knows every little detail about the anime.
He is one of the main reasons why Netflix could bring out one of the best live adaptations of all time. Netflix also produced Henry Cavill’s The Witcher series. Even though it had received positive reviews, the series could not reach the heights that One Piece reached. It was only because the showrunner was not a Witcher enthusiast like Matt Owens for One Piece.
More on One Piece Live Action
Netflix One Piece Live Action had broken several records within its first week of premiere. It premiered in 84 countries and broke the Stranger Things season 4 and Wednesday record. Within the first week, it had garnered over 140 million watch hours. It is one of the highest-rated shows on Netflix in 2023. The positive reviews and the massive popularity have made Netflix renew One Piece Live Action for a second season.
Netflix had previously ventured into the anime live adaptation genre but failed miserably with Death Note Live Action and Cowboy Bebop Live Action. But they did not make the same mistake with One Piece. Eiichiro Oda was with the team from day one and guided them to success. Taz Skylar and the other actors will reprise their roles in season 2, and a few more characters will also make their live adaptation debut.
Netflix’s One Piece Live Action season 2 has begun production, and the fans are eagerly waiting for it to premiere. The executives had confirmed that the script for season 2 was ready and the show would return within eighteen months.
