A24 is known for its horror and often unique films that have metaphorical or transcending endings rather than sports drama. However, it seems that the studio is indeed experimenting with different genres, and legendary actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is also a part of it.
The actor was last seen in the 2023 film Fast X in a simple cameo since which, Johnson hasn’t made an appearance in Hollywood. Putting his focus on the WWE, the actor became a notable appearance in majestic WWE events until a photo from The Smashing Machine was revealed.

Portraying the role of Black Adam in the 2022 DCU film Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson got one of the biggest shocks of his life when the character was not a part of James Gunn’s DCU. Taking a little pause from starring in movies, The Rock joined the WWE temporarily and continued to work on his movies behind the camera.
Ready to share his journey, Johnson revealed that there was a particular reason for starring in The Smashing Machine. In an interview with Variety, the Jumanji actor talked about how he wants to continue to push himself forward.
Stating that he wants to star in movies that depict humanity and explore struggle and pain, Johnson has poured his heart and soul into the upcoming A24 project.

It has also been confirmed that Benny Safdie is attached to the film as its director. The film will star Dwayne Johnson alongside Oleksandr Usyk and is set for a release date of sometime in 2025.
