Reba McEntire says it’s an honor to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl

Reba McEntire has been making headlines for the last few months after being chosen as the singer who will sing the national anthem at the biggest football event of the year, the Super Bowl. And, considering the celebrity stature of McEntire, she is one of the most deserving people out there to sing the national anthem at the event.

Reba McEntire first rose to fame back in 1984 when her second MCA album, My Kind of Country was released, McEntire immediately became a singing sensation as two of her singles from the album became the number-one Billboard country singles. After the release of My Kind of Country, the American singer went on to release ten more studio albums even before the end of the 80s.

After it was announced that McEntire was selected to sing the national anthem at Super Bowl LVIII, the singer took to X(formerly Twitter) and revealed that it is an honor for her to perform at America’s biggest annual sports event. She wrote,

“I’m honored to be part of something as big and historic as the Super Bowl coming to Las Vegas for the first time!”

Reba McEntire has also won 3 Grammy Awards throughout her career spanning over 4 decades.

The legendary country music singer, Chris Stapleton sang the national anthem at last year’s Super Bowl when the Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the Philadelphia Eagles. Stapleton was joined by Oscar-winning actor, Troy Kotsur on the stage who gave an ASL interpretation of The Star Spangled Banner.

To sing in front of a crowd as huge as the crowd at the Super Bowl can be intimidating for some people but Reba McEntire is absolutely cool as a cucumber as she has been doing this for decades. The If You See Him singer recently opened up about performing at the Super Bowl in an interview with CBS and said,

“You just warm up like you do a concert and sing it about five or six times, and get in there, and do it.”

McEntire also talked about how she reacted when she first heard the news of being offered the opportunity by her manager and revealed that she actually needed some time to think about it. She said,

“He said that they wanted me to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl, and I said ‘Oh my gosh. Well, let me think about that.’ And Rex Linn, my boyfriend, who is a huge football fan, he said, ‘Yes, she’ll do it. Absolutely.’ So that’s where we’re at.”

The music icon, Usher will be headlining the Super Bowl halftime show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas this weekend. Usher will also be joined by Reba McEntire, Post Malone, Andra Day, and Tiesto at the event.
