Sydney Sweeney has emerged as a familiar face on television thanks to her incredible performance as Cassie Howard in the hit HBO series Euphoria, for which she even got an Emmy nomination. While this role catapulted her into the spotlight, Sweeney’s journey in the entertainment industry started earlier than one expected, as she acted as a kidnapping victim as a child in Criminal Minds. That said, Sweeney is set to star as Julia Carpenter in the highly-anticipated film Madame Web.

Who Is Julia Carpenter In The World Of Comics?

According to Marvel Fandom, Julia Carpenter swung into the Marvel Comics scene during the Secret Wars event series of 1984, marking her debut in style. Created by Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck, Julia made a brief cameo appearance in Secret Wars #6, teasing her presence before fully stepping into the limelight in Secret Wars #7. Initially introduced as a mysterious villain unfamiliar to the main heroes of the story, Julia eventually allied herself with these characters to battle a much bigger threat.

It wasn’t until the miniseries titled ‘Dark Web’ that comic book enthusiasts had the opportunity to delve deep into Julia’s origin story. Unlike some of her Spider-Man counterparts, Julia Carpenter did not acquire her spider powers until her college years. She was recruited into a supposed athletic study that ended up introducing a wide variety of toxins into her body, including spider venom. This deadly combination ended up giving her powers similar to Spider-Man, including super agility, strength, and reflexes.

However, one thing that sets her apart from the rest is the fact that her webbing is actually psionic in nature, as opposed to her contemporaries, who have either organic or manufactured webbing. Therefore, it means that her webbings are a construct of her mind. The strength of her webbing can’t be called into question as her webbings are strong enough to hold ten tons.

Julia Carpenter has also been a member of different government agencies and superhero teams, including the ever-popular Avengers.
