The Like a Virgin singer handled him when he asked her to kiss an unknown, random member of the audience. It was so entertaining there that it produced the show’s highest ratings.

“Go kiss the guy in the audience it would knock him out,” Letterman was seen asking the star in the interview.
“I can’t,” Madonna responded, laughing awkwardly.
“Why are you so obsessed with my sex life?” Madonna asked him.
“A lot of people would cave into the pressure and say ‘oh alright and go out there and get it over with’,” Letterman replied.
“Yeah well I’ve never succumbed to peer pressure,” Madonna responded without, adding “Incidentally, you are a sick fu*k… I don’t know why I get so much sh*t.”

Madonna Gave David Letterman a Pair of Her Underwear
While Madonna is well-known for her singing, dancing, and daring takes on fashion, Letterman is known for his caustic sense of humor and for having hosted two popular late-night talk shows over a thirty-year period.

While entered the show clutching a pair of her underwear, which she asked Letterman to smell during the interview.
“Wait a minute, aren’t you gonna smell them?” she said, to which Letterman replied, “I’ll take care of that later“, and Madonna complained to the audience: “I gave him my underpants and he won’t smell them!“
Regarding the relationship between them, David Letterman and Madonna did appear to be able to put the embarrassing incident behind them. Since then, the singer has made a few appearances on Late Night with David Letterman to promote her songs and films.
