According to the actor, the Breaking Bad fame Bob Odenkirk played a crucial part in his writing career.
Jesse Eisenberg admitted that he gave a script to Bob Odenkirk during his 20s and got a brutally honest reply. At that time he used to write movie scripts and some of them were even bought by movie companies before the Saul Goodman fame directed him on the right path.
How did Bob Odenkirk bring Jesse Eisenberg’s writing career to the correct track?
Earlier this year, Jesse Eisenberg raised headlines when his written and directed film A Real Pain garnered impressive reviews at the Sundance Film Festival. Besides that, the actor has also made a name for writing three plays for the New York stage and writing several articles for reputed sites.
In a conversation with the Toronto Sun, Jesse Eisenberg claimed that his writing was not always like this. Earlier he used to write broad comedy screenplays before he reached to Bob Odenkirk with one of his scripts. According to him, the Better Call Saul lead did not hesitate to call out his written material. Despite breaking his heart, Odenkirk’s words changed much of Eisenberg’s career.
“He said, ‘I know you. You’re a sensitive, thoughtful guy. Why are you writing these ridiculous comedy scripts? Write something from your heart.’ He went on to criticize the script that I had sent him and, when I was 21, I was heartbroken. But he changed the course of my creative trajectory more than anyone else.”
The 40-year-old actor admitted that it was the “best advice” he got. He believed that it was the reason he found success as a playwright. Jesse Eisenberg also added that Bob Odenkirk‘s words made him realize that the most useful advice is often painful at first but is most helpful at the end.
In 2015, Eisenberg developed more in his writing career and also published his first book Bream Gives Me Hiccups: and Other Stories.
Why does Jesse Eisenberg never watch his movies?
There is a horde of actors in the industry who never watch their films. Several renowned faces like Javier Bardem, Andrew Garfield, Tom Hanks, and Adam Driver dislike to watch themselves on-screen. Jesse Eisenberg also comes from the same group.
According to the Academy Awards website, the Fleishman Is in Trouble actor admitted that watching himself act significantly impacted his process.
“I stopped watching myself in movies 15 years ago. I was worried that I was becoming self-conscious on set, because I would be thinking about my own vanity or the way I looked. I just made the decision to never watch myself in a movie again, and then I didn’t have to think about it!”
Jesse Eisenberg has starred in a wide range of projects. In an interview with Esquire (via Unilad), the actor highlighted that as he does not watch his movies, he craves to have new experiences every time while working on a film-
“I don’t watch the movies I’m in, so I really just focus on the experiences I’m going to have and what character I’m going to play and live with and feel like.”
The Get Real actor is also set to make a return in the third installment of Now You See Me. According to Screen Rant, the third installment of the heist film will mark the return of the OG actors as well as a new group of actors including Ariana Greenblatt, Justice Smith, and Dominic Sessa.
