Earlier this year, Jesse Eisenberg raised headlines when his written and directed film A Real Pain garnered impressive reviews at the Sundance Film Festival. Besides that, the actor has also made a name for writing three plays for the New York stage and writing several articles for reputed sites.

In a conversation with the Toronto Sun, Jesse Eisenberg claimed that his writing was not always like this. Earlier he used to write broad comedy screenplays before he reached to Bob Odenkirk with one of his scripts. According to him, the Better Call Saul lead did not hesitate to call out his written material. Despite breaking his heart, Odenkirk’s words changed much of Eisenberg’s career.

“He said, ‘I know you. You’re a sensitive, thoughtful guy. Why are you writing these ridiculous comedy scripts? Write something from your heart.’ He went on to criticize the script that I had sent him and, when I was 21, I was heartbroken. But he changed the course of my creative trajectory more than anyone else.”

The 40-year-old actor admitted that it was the best advice” he got. He believed that it was the reason he found success as a playwright. Jesse Eisenberg also added that Bob Odenkirk‘s words made him realize that the most useful advice is often painful at first but is most helpful at the end.

In 2015, Eisenberg developed more in his writing career and also published his first book Bream Gives Me Hiccups: and Other Stories.
