Exclusivity is a big deal nowadays, as platform exclusives are quickly becoming a rarity. First-party games from two major platforms usually make their way to PC sooner or later. Due to this, most fans have started second-guessing the benefits of owning a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox. But the games get their success nevertheless, and when a game like Helldivers 2 comes around, it just blows through the roof.

This is exactly what happened recently, Helldivers 2 launched and its success is stranger to no one. Fans everywhere are enjoying this game. Be it on the PlayStation 5 or PC, its player base continues to grow in numbers. But these numbers could have been higher; if it launched for Xbox too, why did it skip that platform?

What made Sony skip Xbox consoles for the Helldivers 2 launch?

Helldivers 2 co-op
Helldivers 2 remains exclusive to PlayStation 5 and PC

When a gamer buys Helldivers 2, there are very high chances that another copy will be sold alongside it. This is a co-op game, and it plays best with teams of friends. Fighting those relentless robots and bugs alone can be a pain.

The best part about this game is that it is available on both the PlayStation 5 and PC. And to no one’s surprise, Helldivers 2 also supports cross-platform play. This allows players on both platforms to play with each other without any hiccups.

The other thing that makes this game so popular is the fact that its developer is completely focused on providing its players with the best experience possible. For one, they keep on changing the game’s world to keep things interesting. Second, they have found ways to make sure things never go dull in the world of Helldivers 2.

Even recently, developers decided to add a brand-new weapon type to the game to make it a bit easier for players to fight those insanely hard-armored robots and bugs. This goes to show how much they are trying to make this game like a relatable, realistic conflict where the tide of war changes with the equipment and armaments that one side has.

But there’s one side that’s losing this war without a doubt, and that’s the side that bought Xbox consoles. Yes, gamers using this console have not gotten a chance to play Helldivers 2 as of yet, and they might never get this chance. As a publisher, Sony seems to have decided to never launch their game for Xbox consoles.

Sony has a good reason to do this too; they know the potential of such a big game and would like to keep it to themselves. And maybe the second reason is none other than Starfield. Let’s not forget that Microsoft only went multiplatform recently; their going multiplatform after acquiring most of the larger publishers is not very surprising.

But Sony is free to do as they feel like, as most of the first-party Sony IPs have only been made by Sony and not purchased like Microsoft does nowadays. And so, they are somewhat more possessive about their games too. But let’s hope Helldivers 2 gets to Xbox somehow, as it’s a multiplayer game, and don’t forget, in a multiplayer game, the more the merrier.

On the other hand, Nintendo does not care about Helldivers 2 at all

While Xbox fans keep asking for Helldivers 2 to be launched on their console, There is no such demand from Nintendo fanboys, and there’s a reason for this too; they have plenty of exciting titles of their own.

And that’s why Helldivers 2 might be the game with all the buzz around it that Nintendo would not have to bat an eye about. They have plenty of exclusives like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to keep their fans happy.
