Earlier in an interview with Total Film, director Adam Wingard also stated that he wanted to try new looks for the creature with different things and different colors. However, he also added, “I didn’t want it to be random, it’s part of the story.”
This statement fueled further speculation among fans, prompting theories about the significance of Godzilla’s pink spine. Many fans speculated that the pink hue could be attributed to Godzilla’s newfound ability to harness Gamma radiation, a theory later confirmed by the film’s narrative.

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire has made a solid entry at the box office, exceeding expectations with an impressive $80 million debut across North America. Despite critical skepticism, evidenced by its 55% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has defied the box office projections, which speculated that it could rake in $50-55 million.
It also marks the second-largest debut for Warner Bros. and Legendary’s MonsterVerse after the 2014 film Godzilla ($93 million) followed by the 2017 film Kong: Skull Island, which recorded a $61 million opening weekend, and Godzilla: King of Monsters with $47.7 million domestic opening.
Additionally, Godzilla X Kong has also secured the second-largest domestic opening weekend of the year, trailing behind Dune: Part Two. So far, the film has grossed $194 million worldwide and is expected to surpass the previous installment of Godzilla vs Kong‘s worldwide earnings, which grossed $470 million worldwide.
