Shazam 2 finally got released and fans are really unhappy with it. By the looks of it, even the director, David F. Sandberg is not very pleased with the response nor some steps taken by Warner Bros. Discovery while promoting the movie. The movie had its ups and downs but the future of Zachary Levi in the DC Universe does not look very bright.

The movie, unfortunately, did not manage to reach the audience, making it difficult for the box office to support it as well. The trailer was already said to be giving away too much information and fans were not too happy about it. However, once again, one aspect of the movie that was supposed to stand out was completely devoid of the factor of a surprise because of WBD.

David F. Sandberg Is Not Happy That Gal Gadot’s Cameo Was Spoiled For Shazam 2

Although a strategy that WBD is not using for the first time, the franchise revealed Gal Gadot‘s involvement in Shazam 2. This was previously done in Black Adam with Henry Cavill’s cameo.

“I was surprised. (Laughs.) I was just getting back from the press tour, and I got a text, asking, ‘Hey, why spoil Wonder Woman?’ And I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ So I didn’t know, and they did apologize for not keeping me in the loop. But I understand why they did it, because they wanted to get people to see the movie. So, of course, I understand, but it’s a shame because these days, the only audiences who get to see these movies as intended are test audiences.”

The director, David F. Sandberg was completely unaware of this happening. He had actually found out about them giving out too much information in the trailer because of the fans. They kept asking him about it and he was dumbfounded. Even though he got an apology from the studios, Sandberg was unhappy with how they approached what was supposed to be a big reveal.

Shazam 2 Trailers Spoiled Rachel Zegler’s Role In The Movie

One factor that was especially supposed to be kept secret was Rachel Zegler’s role in the movie. David F. Sandberg wanted to go out of his way to make sure that her identity was revealed by the end of the movie rather than the audience watching the movie knowing already. Unfortunately, that wish was also short-lived.

“When they saw the movie, they didn’t know Rachel Zegler’s character was a goddess, for example. For them, it was actually a twist that worked, but then, once marketing started, you have to show her in her goddess clothes and that whole thing is out of the bag. So no one is really going to be surprised that she’s a goddess undercover in a school.”

He admitted that with the way the trailers were going, it was going to be very difficult to keep her being a goddess secret. She was instead shown in her clothes as a goddess in the trailers, completely outing her identity.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is now available to watch in theatres.
