Last June, the world was finally greeted with the first ever live-action solo film for the iconic DC comic character The Flash, and while some fans thought that a lot of the film could be improved, including the visual effects, it doesn’t mean that the film is terrible, by any stretch of the imagination. I, personally, loved watching this movie simply because it harkened back to the old superhero flicks that I enjoyed growing up as a 2000s kid.

There are things that keep it from being perfect, but it still deserves some high praise, and, going further than that, it deserves a sequel, despite its terrible box office performance. We forget that this is the first and only DCEU movie to bring back the living legend Michael Keaton, who played the OG Batman in Tim Burton’s iconic duology, which goes to show you that the 2023 film has a lot going for it.

We Never Found out who killed Barry’s Mom

One of the main things that may irk fans is that we never really find out who killed Barry’s mother. In the comics, it was Reverse-Flash who killed his mother Nora. In the film, it is neither confirmed nor denied that Reverse-Flash killed Barry’s mom. It might leave fans blue-balled knowing that we may not get a real answer but that only makes people want to know the answer even more.

It seems like one of those cliffhangers that never gets resolved and or just seems frustrating that not only will the audience get closure, but Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen in the DCEU will never see any closure as to who killed his mother on screen, in any capacity and it would be so refreshing to see that come into fruition and have the hero face off against a brand new baddie. With a more distinct reason and motivation as to why Allen would want to take him down, it would make for a really great dynamic.

Barry’s Arch Could be Explored More

Diving deeper than just Barry’s mother’s death, after seeing The Flash, it seems that Allen himself has an arch that could be a lot more fleshed out. For most of the DCEU, Barry has been playing second fiddle to Henry Cavill’s Superman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, and Ben Affleck’s Batman. He seems more like a cheerleader rather than a hero with a well-thought-out arch. His own character seems like a missed opportunity.

It seems that given this reason, the only way that one could remedy this situation would be to make a sequel to expand on his character development. It would be something to see Barry face off with Gorilla Grodd or another DC villain but it’s sad to say that we may never see Ezra Miller as the hero again.

They Could expand the multiverse

With all this multiversal content being drenched all over the film screens nowadays as a way to feed hungry fans, it only seems fair if the DCEU continued to go down that narrative, it would make for an interesting direction for the franchise. Seeing more of the multiverse in the DCEU for a sequel to the movie would be something for legends.

It certainly couldn’t hurt to give a sequel another chance if the filmmakers decide to integrate Ezra Miller into James Gunn’s DCU. That might be unlikely, but there is always wishful thinking.
