If you have not yet heard, James Gunn has decided to reboot the DCEU into the new DCU, which means that Gal Gadot will not be coming back as everyone’s favorite Wonder Woman and the last time we saw the brave heroine, she was making a small cameo in 2023’s The Flash. We will get back to that later in the article.
Being that Gal Gadot has played the character since 2016’s Batman Vs. Superman and it seems almost impossible to see anyone else portray the character the way that she magnificently did. Seeing that she was a staple character in the Snyderverse, it’s going to be very hard for fans to adjust to the recent changes placed by Gunn and DC.
Diana’s Arch seems unfinished and Wonder Woman 3 could help
What seems more obvious than anything else is the fact that Diana Prince’s arch seems largely unfinished, as the last time we got to see a good portion of the character with proper screen time, she was in Zach Snyder’s Justice League and even then she was still playing second fiddle to Henry Cavill’s Superman and Affleck’s Batman.
We never get to see her reunite with Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor. Instead, Wonder Woman finishes her DCEU tenure with more of a whimper than a bang and leaves the audience more frustrated than satisfied. Her arch just seems to slowly pitter-patter away into the distance as the DCEU goes on and inevitably ends and Wonder Woman 3 might have fixed that.
The second film was not memorable
Obviously, many Gal Gadot fans loved the 2017 film featuring the title character but the last time she got her own movie, she was facing off against two largely forgettable villains: the cheetah, played strangely by Kristen Wiig and Max Lord, played by Pedro Pascal.

The runtime of the film didn’t even feel like a film fit for Wonder Woman. It felt like a filler movie for the DCEU. As one could guess, it received mixed reviews from critics in comparison to the critical acclaim that the original film received for its lackluster execution and didn’t do the title character the justice that she deserved.
Cameos didn’t help
A lot of people were excited to see Gadot’s Wonder Woman in the movies Shazam: Fury of the Gods and The Flash. However, that only relegated that character to a one-scene pony and did Wonder Woman no further justice in the universe.
The cameos added nothing to Diana’s arch and did nothing for her character development. To be honest, the movies could have added any other superhero from the universe and it would have changed nothing about the story. It’s as if they shoe-horned her in the script to appease some of the fans and not realizing that they were doing more of a disservice than a remedy for the hero. Let’s hope Gunn doesn’t do anything to tamper with the Wonder Woman formula.
