We last saw the original Captain America in Avengers: Endgame when he passed on his shield to Mackie’s Sam Wilson. After that, there has been no update at all on the whereabouts of the hero. Fans don’t even know if he is alive or not. However, Anthony Mackie has given fans some respite with new information. During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star updated MCU fans on the current status of Evans’ Steve Rogers.

Kimmel asked the actor point-blank if Steve Rogers is dead. To this, the MCU star replied that he thinks that the super soldier is alive after bantering a little with the host. Here’s how the conversation went between the two:

Jimmy Kimmel: “Is Steve Rogers dead? Steve Rogers, the original Captain America?”

Anthony Mackie: “Is he dead?”

Kimmel: “Yeah, is he dead? Because we didn’t see him die on camera.”

Kimmel: “You know what I’m really doing? I’m just fishing for answers that I know you’re not allowed to give.”

Mackie: “Oh, ok! I’m like….old Cap get like discount breakfast at iHop. All of us wanna be old Cap.”

Kimmel: “Old Cap is ok, then? Old Cap is alive?”

Mackie: “Yeah! I think so! I didn’t see him die! I don’t know, I saw Chris two weeks ago, and he looked pretty good.

It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to fans that Steve Rogers is still alive. After all, the super soldier serum is still very much in him. So will we see the character in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars film? Probably not the way fans are expecting.

Will Chris Evans’ Captain America Be In Avengers: Secret Wars?

Avengers: Secret Wars is rumored to be a multiversal crossover film where characters from previous Marvel movies like Fox’s X-Men and Fantastic Four are slated to appear. Along with the multiversal heroes, the movie is rumored to also bring back veteran MCU actors like Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America. However, since the main Earth’s Captain is an old man now, so he probably won’t be participating in any war.

However, it’s possible that we will get to see a version of Evans’ MCU hero from another Earth. But that’s not all. There’s heavy speculation that we will see Chris Evans, but not as Captain America, but as the Human Torch. After all, he played Johnny Storm/ the Human Torch in the 2005 film Fantastic Four and its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

If this happens, then it will be a great callback to Evans’ other superhero role. However, some fans are even more ambitious and think Evans could appear as both Captain America and the Human Torch. Now whether any of these rumors come true or not, is something only time will tell.
