The director has shared that he pitched the project to Lucasfilm as a Star Wars film. However, the studio passed on the offer. During a recent interview with Screen Rant, Snyder revealed that not only Lucasfilm but Warner Bros. also did not pay much attention to the highly anticipated movie.

Snyder shared that he first came up with the idea for the movie in college. He shared that he pitched the idea of “an ensemble movie like Seven Samurai in Space,” which was very appreciated by his professor. “That’s a pretty good pitch. What about it?” he recalled his professor’s words.
