Will Smith openly confessed that he was really jealous of Jada Pinkett Smith’s friendship with late rapper, Tupac Shakur in the early stages of his relationship.

“I hated that I wasn’t what he was in the world, and I suffered a raging jealousy: I wanted Jada to look at me like that,” Will said.

Tupac Shakur and Pinkett shared a close friendship after they met at Baltimore School for the Arts. They became even close over their shared passion for theatrical arts. The late rapper and Pinkett were under constant speculation among fans and press alike wondering if there is more to the relationship. However, both have clarified that their friendship is platonic.

Honestly confessing his jealousy in his memoir, Will, wrote that Pinkett and Tupac’s friendship really had an impact on his life. “In the beginning of our relationship, my mind was tortured by their connection,” Smith writes. “He was ‘PAC! and I was me … though they were never intimate, their love for each other is legendary.”

Further, Smith explained that he had trouble with Tupac’s “fearless passion” and “militant morality” comparing his own inability to stand up to his father. He also wrote that Tupac was more like his younger brother Harry, who would often stand up to their abusive father.

Adding more, he wrote that he’d find odd happiness when their relationship progressed for which Tupac’s and Pinkett’s distance would grow. However, “If she chose me over Tupac, there was no way I could be a coward,” he writes.

“I have rarely felt more validated. I was in a room with Tupac on multiple occasions, but I never spoke to him. The way Jada loved ‘Pac rendered me incapable of being friends with him. I was too immature.”

“I could never open up to interact with Pac. You know, because we had a little bit of a thing. You know, they grew up together and they loved each other, but they never had … a sexual relationship.”

Later, in an Instagram post caption, he wrote that his jealousy was so intense that it kept him from ever even speaking to the late rapper.
