After a tumultuous time in his career and personal life, Ride or Die is the first movie Smith shot after the infamous Oscar slap incident. And while the franchise is definitely back to take the viewers on yet another entertaining ride, it is truly Will Smith who is very much back in action.

As per the early reviews, Rotten Tomatoes has given the movie 69%, which is sure to fluctuate once the movie releases worldwide this weekend. However, the reviews elsewhere suggest the film might be a definite success. Also making a witty reference to the infamous slap incident, Variety describes the movie as tastier today than it has any right to be.

While USA Today described the movie as still at the top of its game and IGN states there’s so much to enjoy here. With the early reviews of the movie overwhelmingly positive (see X), there is a high chance that Will Smith might have redeemed his career with his fan-favorite franchise.

Following the Oscar slap incident, it was reported that Will Smith’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die has been put on hold (see MovieWeb). There was a general anxiety about hiring the actor since the incident had caused quite a controversy that continues to surround Smith’s career. While the actor has since apologized and accepted his fault, many thought that it had signaled the end of Smith’s career.

While repercussions of the act can still be felt, things might change seeing the excellent reviews Bad Boys: Ride or Die has been receiving. LA Times described Smith’s performance despite the controversy as strangely ageless and unaffected and normal to watch him in this role, while ABC News stated Smith is very much back in his element.

With mostly positive reviews and several calling Smith and Lawrence’s chemistry infectious and entertaining to watch, it is for certain that if Bad Boys: Ride or Die does not bring back Smith’s career it will nonetheless leave a significant impact that might make his climb to fame a whole lot easier.
