But even something as beautiful as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has its controversies and for this show, it was the feud between Will Smith and Janet Hubert. The actress played the role of Aunt Viv for three seasons before she was replaced. Janet Hubert blamed Will Smith’s ego for this while the actor stated that she always wanted to be the center of attention in the show.

After fans were left confused because of Janet Hubert’s sudden farewell from the show, Will Smith had a lot to say. In an interview with an Atlanta radio station, Smith ranted about Hubert stating that she had “been mad all along.” He also stated that the actress considered him to be the Antichrist.

“I can say straight up that Janet Hubert wanted the show to be The Aunt Viv of Bel-Air Show because I know she is going to dog me in the press. She has basically gone from quarter of a million dollars a year to nothing. She’s mad now but she’s been mad all along. She said once, ‘I’ve been in the business for ten years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.’ No matter what, to her I’m just the Antichrist.”

Hubert also put forward her side of the story to TMZ stating that she will never return for a reunion until or unless Smith apologizes to her. She called him an “ego-maniac” and added that she does not want to do anything with Smith again.

“There will never be a reunion…as I will never do anything with an a**hole like Will Smith. He is still an egomaniac and has not grown up. This constant reunion thing will never happen in my lifetime unless there is an apology, which he doesn’t know the word.”

Despite vowing to never return for a reunion, Hubert was a part of HBO Max’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion in 2020. At the reunion, the two had a heart-to-heart conversation about how Smith hurt Hubert and affected her professional life. Post the reunion, Huber appeared on Jada Smith’s Red Table Talks where she and the Emancipation buried the hatchet.

In a 2021 interview with People, Hubert opened up about what her relationship was like after she and Smith made up the previous year. She stated that the two texts each other all the time and have a good relationship. Hubert also added that if they just had a conversation before, the feud would never have happened.

“We text each other back and forth all the time. As a matter of fact, we have a very good relationship. I meant it with all my heart when I hugged him because I saw that little boy, that little 21-year-old boy. Had we had an opportunity to talk back then, I think this would have never happened.”

Hubert continued that it was wonderful to have Smith back in her life.

“He was in a place, and I was in a place, we were both in a bad place. When you’re both in a bad place and there’s no communication, you have to talk. So it’s been wonderful, it’s been lovely to have him back in my sphere.”

It is a relief that the two sorted their differences out. After all, sometimes all you need is a heart-to-heart conversation with each other which makes everything better!
