Just as Prime Video’s Fallout TV series is gearing up to release to the worldwide audience, it already has reasons to have a season 2. Based on the popular game of the same name from Bethesda Studios, the Fallout TV series was released globally on April 11, 2024.
Even before the first season has been watched by the audience, there are several reports and reasons hinting at the possibility of a Season 2. If that wasn’t enough, the hope of the makers further strengthens the possibility, and now, it even has monetary reasons.
California offering $25 million tax credit to Fallout TV series
Although the second season of Prime Video’s Fallout TV series has not been officially announced yet, it recently received a very promising production update. It was in the form of a tax credit from California.
Fallout TV show is reportedly being offered a $25 million tax credit for relocating the filming of the second season from New York State to California. Although the second season may not be in sight, the tax credit offer seems to be a good sign of its possibility.
A tax credit like this is usually offered by the California Film Commission to avoid something known as “runaway production.” The objective is to lure productions that would have otherwise filmed in other states or overseas to the Golden State.
The California Film Commission has announced the benefit of a $153 million overall incentive to a dozen TV series and one of them is Fallout. Some of the other series included in the list of incentives is the first season of NCIS: Origins, Dr. Odyssey, and the Niecy Nash-starring Grotesquerie.
Will there be Season 2 of Fallout TV series?
Well, the $25 million tax credit to relocate to California for its second season isn’t the only reason that points towards a second outing. During an exclusive interview with The Direct the producers themselves had expressed their hopes for a Fallout Season 2.
Fallout TV series showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet shared how the team is “hoping to get [a Season 2]” since there were so many things that they were unable to accommodate into an eight-hour-long Season 1. She says,
“We do not have [a Season 2] yet, but we’re hoping to get one because we certainly have so many things that we could not fit into eight hours in Season 1 that we really, really want to do. That was the hardest, I think, part of adapting all of this was the fact that there’s just nonstop treasure in 25 years of ‘Fallout’ games, and you want to bring everything to the screen, but you can’t because you can’t do justice to all of it, right?”
In addition to the showrunner, executive producer Jonathan Nolan also confessed that they did talk about what a Season 2 could be. Nevertheless, he adds that most of their focus was making sure they had one great season at least. Nolan says,
“We talked about a little bit. I think you always have to have a game plan should you be so lucky as to get a second season. I think, for the most part, we put our energy into making sure you’ve got one terrific season to tell. And if you should be so lucky, with Geneva [Robertson-Dworet] and Graham [Wagner], the showrunners, we’ve talked from the beginning about where we could go with this; I just hope that people enjoy it, we get a chance.”
Meanwhile, a report from Variety also notes that Season 2 of Fallout was expected to reportedly begin filming in September in Toronto. However, given the tax credit benefit, it remains to be seen how Fallout Season 2, if there’s one at all, takes shape.
