There’s no doubt that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith share a loving and understanding relationship as evidenced by their 25 years of marriage. Their journey hasn’t been a smooth one, but what sets them apart is the open-mindedness they bring to their marriage. Despite scandals like Jada Smith’s affair with August Alsina, the couple’s relationship with each other and their children remains unshaken.
The romance between the Smiths during the years they were dating was incredibly intense. Sometime after their engagement, the Girls Trip actress committed to the romcom film, Woo, and the Focus actor frequently visited her on set. However, it didn’t turn out well for her co-star.
Will Smith Almost Fought With Jada Pinkett Smith’s Co-star
Jada Pinkett Smith was paired with Tommy Davidson in the Daisy Mayer film. Davidson gained recognition as a cast member of the sketch comedy show, In Living Color. In his memoir titled, Living in Color: What’s Funny about Me, Davidson opened up about the altercation he had with Will Smith over kissing his then-fiancée, Jada Smith.
The comedian had a great time on set as he got along well with the Hawthorne actress. Davidson was not impressed by the ending of the film and decided to perform a dance number as the credits rolled. Davidson got Smith to agree to the dance idea, but he failed to mention that he had also discussed with a producer a kiss between him and The Matrix Reloaded actress.
Obviously, the Scream 2 actress was not prepared for the unrehearsed kiss scene, and according to Davidson, Jada Smith flinched during the kiss. A while later, Will Smith, who happened to be on set, came to Davidson’s trailer and things quickly got ugly between them. Davidson wrote in his book:
“Will went all gangsta on me, saying what I did was not cool. There was a moment there when we might have come to blows. My reactive fight-or-flight instinct was triggered and I could have exploded.”
However, Jada Smith, who followed the Emancipation actor to the trailer, deescalated the situation between the two actors.
Tommy Davidson And Will Smith Have Maintained A Friendly Relationship
Despite the ugly situation between the two actors, Will Smith did not hold any grudges against Tommy Davidson. The Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls actor recalled that whenever he bumped into the couple, they treated him in a friendly manner. Moreover, Davidson had nothing but great things to say about Jada Smith and her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris, who helped him through some tough times.
Tommy Davidson appeared in a 2019 episode of Jada Pinkett Smith’s talk show, the Red Table Talk. The comedian recounted his experience with Smith’s kind nature when they worked together on Woo. Davidson spoke at the Red Table Talk:
“[The] first time that we worked together — and I really got to know you on the set of Woo — I came out for a scene and you looked at me and you said, ‘Something’s wrong with you.’ I was like, ‘What you talking about? Let’s just get to work.’ I said, ‘My mother contacted, my real mother and she was on the phone. I got a chance to talk to her but I don’t want to deal with that.’ She said, ‘Oh really? OK, hold — that’s a wrap!’”
Davidson was adopted at the age of two after his real mother abandoned him. Interestingly, Jada Smith’s mother helped Davidson to achieve sobriety, after recovering from drug addiction herself. It appears that the Smith family can never be the vengeful kind.
