It’s a tale of a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire who’s infatuated with her. The film stars Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård as the titular vampire. Even Lily-Rose Depp is also in the cast, joining as a haunted young woman.

This film is Eggers’ “passion project,” which began filming in 2015 after his release of The Witch. But the production was delayed, and he went on to direct Lighthouse and The Northman instead.

However, after battling several scheduling conflicts and casting changes, the 40-year-old director has finally given the green light to the project, which will be released on big screens next year. Recently, a new picture came into the public sphere, which gave a sneak peek at Willem Dafoe as the “crazy vampire hunter” in the film.

In the image, the actor is seen wearing a brown jacket, giving a maniacal laugh. He’s surrounded by flames igniting in some cave of older structure. The filmmaker told EW, “That sequence, aside from having real flames, had 2,000 real rats.” He described Von Franz as a “crazy vampire hunter” — a character, he says, “I’ve always loved and related to.”

Dafoe has previously earned an Oscar nomination for his part in the movie Shadow of the Vampire (2000). He’s well aware of the genre and knows how to get the best out of it. According to him, Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is a visual masterpiece. It’s Dafoe’s third collaboration with The Northman director.

As per Deadline, the Robert Eggers horror feature will follow a narrative similar to the 1922 Germanic horror fable. Yet, the 2024 Nosferatu will be “darker and more psychological”:

“In the new reimagining, Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Lily-Rose Depp) in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Bill Skarsgård) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.”

As already mentioned, Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe will be seen as Count Orlok, Ellen Hutter, and Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz, respectively.

Superman: Legacy’s Lex Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult will be seen as Thomas Hutter. Aaron Taylor Johanson is playing Friedrich Harding. Whereas the Crown actress Emma Corrin is cast as Anna Harding.
