WIT Studio’s President Talks About Attack on Titan Changing Studios

In an interview with Anime Corner, WIT Studio’s President Wada was asked about MAPPA taking over Attack on Titan for the fourth season. Wada explained how the shift helped in the completion of the series and even admitted that the series would have been a failure if MAPPA hadn’t taken over.

President Wada stated:

“Yes, I’m very happy that Attack on Titan itself is so popular. What actually happens a lot is that the timing of the popularity of a manga and the timing of when a studio can actually get out the anime doesn’t always match up. The reason that we were able to complete the series was because MAPPA took it on. And it’s a wonderful studio, so I’m very happy that they were able to take it on and continue with it.”

According to Wada, the release of the animated series couldn’t match up with the timing of Attack on Titan’s manga popularity. This made it difficult for the anime. He even stated that the series was only completed because MAPPA took it over and continued with it.

Attack on Titan Changing Studios Actually Helped The Anime Series

Hajime Isayama’s series changing studio in the final season came as a shock to Attack on Titan fans. This is because WIT Studios did an amazing job with the animation and fans were hoping that they would bring the series to the anticipated conclusion. However, Wada explained why WIT Studios could not have done justice to the finale of the series.

In an interview with Anime News Network, Wada talked about how the popularity of the series when Attack on Titan was released depended on the sales of the DVD. By the time they reached the third season, the studio already had funding for multiple other projects. This would have affected the release timings and the quality of the series.

If the finale of a series as big as Attack on Titan had been spoilt by WIT Studio, fans would have not been happy and it would have hurt the image of the studio which they have built for so many years. Therefore MAPPA taking on the final season of Attack on Titan in a way was a win-win situation for everyone.
