After months of rumors and speculation, Microsoft announced Call of Duty (CoD): Black Ops 6 on May 23rd, 2024. The game’s official reveal caught many off-guard and brought us interesting things, such as cryptic teasers, fictional news reports, and massive advertisements. While it’s already confirmed we will see Black Ops 6 on Game Pass, certain new details have emerged that will excite players on older-generation consoles.
The latest reports suggest that Activsion’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 might possibly also launch on PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One consoles. While this may be disappointing news for those hoping for a massive graphics upgrade in the upcoming CoD game, it’s surely reassuring news for gamers who still haven’t jumped to the latest-generation consoles.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Might Be Coming To PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
We’re almost halfway through the lifecycle of the current-generation consoles, but it seems like Activision has no plans to give up on the last-generation consoles.
An image shared by a Reddit (via CharlieIntel) user reveals what looks to be the GameStop pre-order details for the upcoming CoD game.
As the picture reveals, options for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and, most importantly, PS5 are mentioned in the list of copies available for gamers to purchase. It’s not only a potential PS4 release; there’s also a price hike for the upcoming CoD game.
If the leaked image is accurate, it means that CoD Black Ops 6 will be available on a console that’s more than a decade old. Insider Gaming’s sources have verified the image, confirming that the upcoming CoD is all set to arrive on last-generation consoles.
Although the image doesn’t confirm a release on Xbox One, the site mentions that Black Ops 6’s Xbox Series S/X version will bring cross-generation support for Xbox One consoles.
Of course, Xbox players won’t be affected by Black Ops 6′s price hike as they will be able to enjoy the title with a Game Pass subscription. Microsft is planning to bring the series to Game Pass later this year, but it might raise the monthly service’s price once it does.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6’s Release on PS4 Might Be Disappointing For Some Fans
Although Black Ops 6‘s release on PS4 and Xbox might be great news for many gamers, it’s equally dissapotining for some fans. Many in the community believe modern games are held back by the weak hardware on older-generation consoles. But given how many people still regularly play on last-generation consoles and how popular the franchise is, it’s not a surprise Activsion wants to release the game on older systems.
Activsion’s decision to bring Black Ops 6 to PlayStation 4 makes sense, considering that half of the PlayStation users are still playing on a PS4. The last-generation console’s player base remains incredibly huge, and cutting it off from one of the most expensive games would mean throwing tons of money on the table.
We’ve already seen PS5 exclusives such as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Spider-Man 2 suffering from poor sales due to being exclusive to current-generation consoles.
