With The Flash Set to Erase Snyderverse, Snyder Fans Celebrate Man of Steel’s 10 Year Anniversary: “Henry Cavill is the GOAT Superman”

2023 marks the year Snyderverse came full circle. At the tail end of April, Zack Snyder would organize a 3-day marathon for his DCEU trilogy the way it was meant to be seen – on the big screen and for the exclusive eyes of an unwavering, devoted audience. In June, the love child of Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill, i.e. Man of Steel would turn 10. All of it, however, was fated to be celebrated under the shadow of the ever-growing and overbearing DCU that is set to take over and replace what Snyder had started.

The irony of the situation thus stands crystal clear: June 14, 2023, marks the 10th birth year of DCEU. 2 days later, The Flash will erase the entirety of Snyderverse.

Man of Steel – The Film That Divided an Entire Generation

One of the most beautiful and inimitable products to have come out of Snyderverse was the era of Henry Cavill and the trilogy of an incomplete saga that began with Man of Steel. The film conceived Superman in a new world that was littered with a comic-aware audience who were being given a taste of what Marvel and DC could truly become in the right hands (as already depicted by Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and the MCU). But not everything went according to plan.

Man of Steel divided and shattered perceptions. The Man of Tomorrow, the bringer of hope, light, and optimism no longer stood steadfastly by those principles anymore. This version of Superman marred the values that guided and dictated the morality of the literal Super Man as he was supposed to be above mankind’s flaws and errings – feelings of vengeance, guilt, greed, and selfishness would not make him heroic at all.

In that, Zack Snyder did transcend borders when molding Henry Cavill into his Man of Steel, but while his vision was perhaps even ahead of its time, it was born in a world that could not have been more prepared and receptive to an ambition of such magnitude and scale.

On this day today, Man of Steel was released in theatres 10 years ago. The love and disruption that followed in its wake was unprecedented. And just as much as the hatred overflowed for damning such a universally loved symbol to the pits of despair, the love grew stronger for the figure who was raised among the humans and as such was more humane than flawless.

As of June 16, 2023, Ezra Miller’s The Flash is set to erase the Snyderverse timeline. The DCEU as it was will officially cease to exist. On its bones and ashes will rise a universe so new that it will rival the 15-year-old MCU that has already lived lifetimes in the four Phases of its expansive narration. James Gunn, the author, and director of the DCU will launch the new universe with a film titled Superman: Legacy that premieres on July 11, 2025.
