Former Disney Channel star Selena Gomez rose to fame for her role as Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place. The show, which aired from 2007 to 2012, saw the actress transform into a wizard-in-training who attempts to control and use her magical powers.
The series was a massive hit among fans, and its popularity gave the singer-actress her biggest break ever. Long before she released albums and even her cosmetics line, Gomez was already earning millions of dollars.
Wizards of Waverly Place Made Selena Gomez A Teenage Millionaire
In a report from Ms. Mojo, actress Selena Gomez was paid between $25,000 and $30,000 per episode. It may not seem much at first, but with the show running for five years over a hundred episodes, this would earn the young star around three million dollars.
Gomez was only 15 years old when the Disney show premiered, but more than the fortune, it was the fame that propelled her career. She went on to star in various movies and launched her singing career afterward.
The actress also takes pride in becoming a producer. Some of her notable productions include Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building. As per Celebrity Net Worth, Gomez is worth a staggering $800 million.
In all of her achievements in life and career, Gomez never forgets where she came from. The actress previously appeared in Wizards of Waverly Pod interview and opened up about her time in the show:
“I can’t begin to tell you guys without making it such a little cry session. I felt like I was the happiest I’d been my whole life. I recognize that because I obviously have this different attention on me that I didn’t have then. It was a really pure time. I am so lucky and grateful that I get to be a part of all these other projects, but I tell people all the time I’ve never had that feeling that I had with the whole Wizards crew.”
Gomez loved her experience filming for Wizards of Waverly Place, and that is why a sequel has been confirmed, and it is now in the works!
Wizards of Waverly Place Sequel Series With Selena Gomez Is Happening
A pilot episode for the sequel of Wizards of Waverly Place is currently in production. Selena Gomez and co-star David Henrie, who played Justin Russo, will co-executive produce the series. In an Instagram post, the actor shared the good news along with a snapshot of the script.
“The Russo’s are excited to become a part of your family, once again, but we’ve grown. 2024, the year magic comes back!”
Wizards of Waverly Place is the latest original Disney Channel project to get a sequel. Hilary Duff’s Lizzie McGuire failed to get off the ground despite the announcement of a follow-up.
There is no news yet as to the return of the other cast members, but hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, there will be more updates from both Henrie and Gomez.
