Universal Pictures’ Wolf Man was one of the most anticipated movies of 2024, partly due to Ryan Gosling playing the titular character. However, Gosling surprisingly ended up exiting the movie. As of now, the actor has not communicated his reason for his decision to not work on the film.
The popular actor has been replaced by Christopher Abbott for the 2024 project. It will be an immense task for Abbott as he not only bears the success for the film’s individual success but also Universal Pictures’ Dark Universe, which kicked off in 2017 with The Mummy.
Wolf Man’s Failure Could Mean the End of the Road for the Dark Universe
Upon seeing the immense success of Marvel Cinematic Universe, many studios have tried to launch their own version of the same. Universal Pictures’ attempt to do so kicked off with The Mummy in 2017, which starred none other than Tom Cruise.
Despite the film bringing back the iconic monster, it was viewed as a humongous failure by fans. After all, the movie has a disastrous 5.4/10 rating on IMDb. Keeping that in mind, many were already skeptical of Ryan Gosling’s Wolf Man.
Following Gosling’s exit from the project, the doubts that fans had in mind have only increased. Christopher Abbott is a talented actor, but filling the shoes of Ryan Gosling could turn out to be a demanding task for him.
Either way, fans shouldn’t give up on the movie right now. After all, many actors have delivered shockingly amazing performances in films in which they weren’t expected to shine.
When is Wolf Man Releasing?
It has been more than three years since Ryan Gosling was announced as the lead in the next project under the banner of Universe Pictures. However, with Gosling’s departure from the movie, many are anticipating a delay in its release.
Well, as of now, there is no update about a potential delay for the film’s arrival in theaters. The movie is slated to be released on the big screen on October 25, 2024.
Considering the film will primarily be in the horror genre, it’s no surprise that the movie has received a release date around Halloween in 2024.
Apart from Christopher Abbott’s casting as the lead, not much is known about the rest of the cast of the movie. However, it is confirmed that The Invisible Man director, Leigh Whannell, will be taking on the project.
The Invisible Man attained a 7.1/10 rating on IMDb, which is good news for Wolf Man fans. After all, both films will share the same director, as mentioned earlier.
Can Wolf Man finally give the Dark Universe the popularity it has been seeking since 2017? Or will it be yet another failure? Only time will tell.
