Will Smith once opened up about the worst dating advice he got from a friend. The Focus actor, who was married to Sheree Zampino and later Jada Pinkett Smith, experienced bad dates and breakups during his teenage years. However, in an attempt to get Smith on his dating A-game, one of his friends gave him advice that turned out to be violent.

His friend, Charlie Mack, believed that beating people up would impress girlfriends. To the surprise of the Emancipation actor, this method actually worked for his friend. Thankfully, Will Smith took another path that made him the star he is today.

Will Smith played a ‘date doctor’ in his 2005 film, Hitch. Talking about the film to the BBC back in the day, Smith revealed some insights into his dating life. Since he played a ‘date doctor’ with the nickname ‘Hitch’, the interviewer asked the Bad Boys actor if he had received any bad dating advice from anyone.
Smith was quick to recall his friend from his hometown of Philadelphia, Charlie Mack. Mack’s advice to the Aladdin actor was, firstly, to make girlfriends laugh, and secondly, to beat up other guys to make the girls feel safe. Will Smith recounted Mack’s advice to BBC:
“It was from a friend of mine – his name is Charlie Mack. He’s like my ghetto co-ordinator from back in Philly and he said, ‘No, no, no! Whatcha gotta understand man, is that women want a dude that can do anything, so what you wanna do is make ’em laugh. If you wanna make ’em laugh and then they need to see you, like, knock somebody the f**k out!’”
While this advice is as horrible as dating advice goes, Smith admitted that the tactic and the reasoning actually worked, especially for his friend. Charlie Mack might have been a bad influence to be around in teenage years, but The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor vouched for his friend, saying:
“But listen. It works. I mean it’s the worst most horrible advice I’ve ever heard, but when women see him knock somebody out they do really say, ‘Ooh, Charlie!’”
However, Smith didn’t go around beating anybody (until he chose the biggest moment in his career to do so!) but chose another path to ensure he impressed his girlfriends.

During the BBC interview, Will Smith revealed that he experienced heartbreak when he was a teenager. He recounted the story where his crush, Stacy Brooks, promised him the last dance at a party but instead took the dance floor with another guy. The King Richard actor revealed that the incident left him scarred at a very young age.
In yet another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Smith revealed he was cheated on at the age of 15. The Pursuit of Happyness actor decided that he would never let that happen again and pursued acting to become the biggest star in the world. Smith shared with The Hollywood Reporter:
“When I was 15 years old, my first girlfriend cheated on me. And I remember making a decision that nobody would ever cheat on me again. And the way I was gonna do that was by being the biggest actor on Earth.”
However, things did not work out the way Will Smith intended, even after achieving the status he desired. In the most recent update, his wife Jada Pinkett Smith revealed that the couple’s marriage has been on the rocks since 2016, and they have been living separately since then. The Girls Trip actress was also allegedly in an ‘entanglement’ with her son’s friend, August Alsina.
The Seven Pounds actor is yet to comment on his wife’s shocking revelation.
