World of Warcraft Classic is all set to get a new season in the coming weeks called Season of Discovery which will bring new ways to play the game, making it completely different than it is now. The new upcoming season was announced during the BlizzCon 2023 opening ceremony by Holly Longdale, Executive Producer of World of Warcraft.
Longdale also explained how things would work in the new season saying that a Mage could become a healer, or a Warlock could become a tank.
Season of Discovery Is Coming to World of Warcraft Classic
BlizzCon 2023 revealed some surprising announcements and one of those is the Season of Discovery. It is described as “Vanilla World of Warcraft, with a twist” and Blizzard is aiming to evolve the game with this. Season of Discovery will feature a new rune system that will give players “class-altering abilities” that were not present in the game before.
Players can find hidden runes in special chests scattered throughout the game. After players acquire these runes, the new rune-engraving system will allow them to exchange their runes to experiment with different builds such as healing Mages or tank Warlocks. Season of Discovery will launch with a 25-level cap with a 10-player version of Blackfathom Deeps.
It will be the first level-25 endgame raid in the new seasonal experience in World of Warcraft Classic with new and reimagined bosses, mechanics, and rewards. The level cap will also be increased over time and bring more endgame content with new dungeons and raids. There will be new content in Season of Mastery of WoW Classic for PvP players as well.
Season of Mastery was the first step Blizzard took to evolve the Classic formula. It increased leveling speeds and changed raid mechanics, making them more challenging. The newly announced Season of Discovery will take it forward with new ways to play the MMO. This isn’t the Classic+ experience that players have been asking for but it is the closest they get to that for now.
Season of Discovery will bring something new for the players from what players have seen in The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, or WoW Classic Hardcore. WoW Classic players will not have to wait long for the Season of Discovery as it will be released on November 30. It will launch without any public test phase, unlike the other main updates of World of Warcraft.
World of Warcraft Classic will soon wrap up its Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Blizzard has also announced the new expansion Cataclysm for the game with a few changes. The Cataclysm expansion was a controversial topic at launch as Blizzard re-invented many zones across Azeroth instead of introducing new ones.
The Cataclysm expansion also brought new zones such as Uldum, Hyjal, and the Twilight Highlands as well as ditched Thrall as Warchief of the Horde and added Garrosh Hellscream. The addition of Garrosh Hellscream as the Warchief of the Horde led to major plotlines including the corruption of Pandaria and the rise of Sylvanas Windrunner.
Blizzard seems to be making changes to the Cataclysm including streamlined leveling, continuation of the Titan Rune dungeon system from Wrath Classic, and expansion of collections UI, and will allow players to trace the origins of Goblins and Worgen. Although no specific date has been announced, the Cataclysm expansion will launch in the first half of 2024.
BlizzCon 2023 was swamped with World of Warcraft news as alongside the above-mentioned reveals. Blizzard’s Chris Metzen announced three brand-new expansions for the modern version of World of Warcraft. The expansions are collectively called The Worldsoul Saga with the first one, The War Within, dropping in 2024.
