When will the Xbox 360 Store be closing, and how many games will be lost?

At the moment, there is a set plan for the Xbox 360 Store to close on July 29th 2024, and because of this, players will not be able to buy games anymore on their Xbox 360 console. This does not mean that players won’t be able to access their games, as gamers will always have access to the games they have already bought and all of the content that is available for that game.

Due to this change for the Xbox 360 Store, there will be a fair few games that sadly won’t be accessible once the store closes unless these games are brought onto more recent consoles with backwards compatibility. Since these games haven’t been brought up to more recent consoles, they will be stuck on the Xbox 360 platform and will not be accessible for players after the Store is shut down, but there is one saving grace if a player owns the games already either through the digital store or a physical copy they will still have access to the game.

This is highly unlikely for a lot of the games that will be disappearing once the Xbox 360 Store closes as a lot of the games that will be disappearing are a part of the digital-only Xbox Live Arcade section of the store, meaning that these games do not have a physical copy and never will and once the store is gone there is no opportunity for players to gain access to them meaning we could lose hundreds of classic arcade games that are a part of this section of the store.

What have gamers said about the change to the Xbox 360 Store?

Since this news has been released, there has been a mixed response from gamers as many believe that older generation consoles are outdated, to begin with, and it is an eventuality that their services be shut down. Since they believe this, they aren’t concerned that the Xbox 360 Store is closing down, as long as this doesn’t affect any games that they have bought as physical copies or are used through backwards compatibility then they don’t mind.

On the other hand, there are a lot of gamers who are very unhappy by the Xbox 360 Store being closed down as many players feel that we are moving on too quickly and that as the gaming industry evolves into a more digital-only service, we will lose a lot of the great games that were available in the past. Since the Xbox 360 Store is closing, we are losing quite a few games, and many players feel that if these games do not get brought up to the newer generation of consoles through backwards compatibility, then we will be losing a lot of games that are unique to the older generation of gaming.

Right now, there is a split between gamers as many are hoping that these games will not be entirely lost as the Xbox 360 Store is shut down, but many believe that it is likely they will be going and will unlikely make a comeback. What do you think about the Xbox 360 Store closing down? Will you miss the hundreds of games that will be lost once the store closes for good next year? Let us know in the comments what you think!
