The Xbox Legacy feature allows players to enjoy previous titles released for generations of consoles that came before. However, it has been mired with issues when it comes to the achievement system. The Xbox Game Pass, which allows players to enjoy a number of the console’s titles on PC, also forces PC players into the Xbox achievement system.

Fans have felt hard done by this for quite some time as there is a prevalent argument that PC players do not care about their achievements in-game. This argument doesn’t make sense at all as PC players too enjoy a sense of completion and progression which can be easily felt with a working achievement system.

When one fan complained about Diablo IV on PC Game Pass not supporting Xbox achievements, Mike Ybarra reposted it along with his own take on the matter. In his post, he elucidates that the old achievement system that Xbox has needs a complete revamp in the form of a v2 and needs to be modernized to keep up with the times.

Fans took to the comment section to add their takes on the matter and support Mike’s statement. One fan wrote,

I’ve seen so many others just write off achievements because they claim PC players don’t care. I care. I’ve been “scrapbooking” achievements on Xbox for 15 years. I would have liked to earn them in Diablo on PC. And the system does need an upgrade.

While this fan’s demand for achievements for PC players seems legit, Mike replies to this comment outlining exactly what is the issue and why there is a need for a new system.

Problem with putting Trophies or Achievements on PC is they will get hacked. Just like you can hack achievements on Steam today. PC isn’t a secure device. That might be OK – but many will care if 40% of the gaming community has 1M+ gamerscore. This is why we need a new system.

Mike’s statement is sure to resonate with a large section of PC players who play the game via Xbox Game Pass but are not able to enjoy the achievement system of Xbox.

Will Xbox Get to See a New Achievement System?

Achievement system on Xbox

Xbox has been mired in controversy for quite some time. But a complete revamp of its achievement system to make them available across platforms might be a sensible move for the company. However, the challenges to do this are a lot because of the security issues that the PC eco-system poses.

We are awaiting further news and updates from Xbox regarding the company’s decision regarding its achievement system, but if Xbox ends up with a new iteration, where does that leave those who play on PlayStation and Steam? Will this just devolve into another point-scoring war over something so pointless?

I travel. I game. I write. In no strict order.

The single biggest lie told all around is, "It isn't that simple." It is simple, everything is. And that is what I emulate in my writing. No unnecessary jargons and no flamboyant flourish. Just what's needed to get your imagination going. After all mind has no limit, unlike the written word.
