In 2023 it was a great year for video games, and Baldur’s Gate 3 garnered the attention of millions. The game’s narrative and open-ended nature has received a lot of praise, but not without its fair share of mishaps. Between delays and glitches for the Xbox version of the game, there seems to be a new issue rising that may be a little hard to explain.
Recently, a Redditor came across a newfound issue when sharing their admiration for the game. Or at least, admiration for certain scenes in the game. Despite being authentic to its bold roots, Xbox has some strict policies about nudity and in-game sex scenes.
If You Are Playing the Game on Xbox, You Might Have to Be Careful About In-Game Captures
Redditor Daddy-Vegas, like many fans of Baldur’s Gate 3, was adventuring through the game’s many aspects. Specifically, exploring the different characters in certain sensual settings. Between those moments of joy, the urge to capture some of these moments didn’t leave the player’s mind. Unfortunately, this wasn’t taken lightly by Xbox.
According to the Reddit post:
I recorded 3 clips last night of some naked camp time fun. XBox, by default, uploads all recorded clips to the server for easy sharing. Each clip counted as a different infraction and got my account banned for a year.
Sympathies and condolences for Daddy-Vegas are rampant in the comments section, as the post has managed to draw the attention of more than 2.1k Redditors. In an effort to fix this issue, the player has requested Xbox to take a further look into this and be more understanding of the entire issue.
Out of all the game clips that have seemingly banned the user’s Xbox account, one stands out to be the most punishing; a 366-day suspension. While all of it seems extremely odd considering Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game that thrives on certain rawness.
Furthermore, the ban restricts the user from accessing any kind of in-game content that requires an online connection.
While few Redditors are sympathizing with the post with words of utter shock and surprise, others are suggesting that players should just turn off the option to automatically upload clips to the cloud. This can be done through Xbox’s overlay and settings, should the need arise.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Embraces Nudity Which Should Have Been Approved By Microsoft
At the time of writing, it’s safe to admit that this shouldn’t be happening at all. According to the PEGI rating on Baldur’s Gate 3, the game is supposed to be filled with stories of lust, love, and everything in between.
In fact, games like Cyberpunk 2077 have some of the most carefully curated moments of intimacy between characters that don’t shy away from any kind of detail. Ideally, players get to experience what they pay for. However, this mishap is likely to surface as an issue in the coming days.
A Redditor by the name of JoseMongo makes a remark:
That’s outrageous and so unbelievably moronic! Surely any content recorded from an 18+ title would simply be marked as NSFW. How can they ban you for using a feature they provided, on a game they’ve sold you.
Rightfully so, any kind of ban on recording in-game moments of intimacy between characters shouldn’t be marked as restricted content. Moreover, the title is one of the few games fans have celebrated for managing to include the beauty, awkwardness, and chemistry that sex may involve. While the concept of sexual intimacy isn’t new to video games, few studios get the idea right.
There’s no guarantee that the issue will be quickly resolved, but it’s high time someone from Microsoft takes a look at this. Until then, be wary of the screenshots and game clips you capture on Xbox.
