Contraband was announced by Xbox Game Studios back in June 2021 but there have been no substantial updates after that. The game is being developed by Avalanche Studios Group and will be coming to Xbox consoles and PC through Steam.
After a long wait, more details about the game have now emerged in a Riskit4theBiskit podcast where popular Podcaster Middleagegameguy (also known as MAGG) spoke about the game. MAGG has shared a lot of details about the game in the podcast and from the initial details, looks like Contraband could be a game worth the long wait after all.
Eight-Player Co-Op and More Contraband Details Revealed
Co-host of the XNC Podcast, MAGG appeared on another podcast a few days back, as he joined Riskit4theBiskit to talk about the future of Xbox and upcoming games. MAGG stated having first-hand experience with Contraband as the game was said to be in between the alpha and beta stages at the moment.
Describing what the game felt like, MAGG mentioned it being reminiscent of titles like Duke Hazzard, Battlefield Hardline, PayDay, and Driver. The game is said to include up to 8-player co-op gameplay that includes not just driving but also features some “epic car chases“.
MAGG also mentions having tried a 4-player co-op mode but did not try a single-player mode in the little time he got his hands on the game. Finally, it was revealed that the developers are trying several game modes to finalize which mode will appeal to the gamers more so more changes are still expected.
Open-World Co-Op Adventure Set in the 70s
Announcing Contraband back in back in 2021, Xbox revealed that the game will be set in the 1970s in the fictional world of Bayan. It was also said to be a vast open-world game being developed using Apex Engine, the same engine used for Just Cause, by the developers Avalanche Studios Group.
Avalanche Studios had also worked on the 2015 game Mad Max and the 2019 title Rage 2 along with ID Software. On Reddit, players were either posting comments mentioning the fatigue with another live-service, multiplayer game or looking forward to another game with gameplay similar to Just Cause.
Another comment mentioned it could be the perfect Game Pass title to play along with friends. Contraband being an Xbox exclusive along with a Steam release later on, it’s highly likely Game Pass subscribers will get the title on the release date.
The year has just started so some of the comments still predict either a late 2024 release or a release early next year. Since the game is said to have just reached the Beta stage now, the release date might still be a long way away. These details, however, have given gamers waiting for the Xbox title a good idea of what to expect.
