The Final Fantasy franchise made a significant impact on the video game industry. The iconic series has generated countless spinoff titles and remakes in the past few years and for some odd reason, the franchise could not penetrate Microsoft’s gaming platforms.

The gaming community has different preferences for gaming platforms and it would be best to invest in a console that can run any video game they desire. The people at Microsoft have dropped the ball hard in this regard and fans of Japanese video games will likely not even consider the company as an option for their entertainment needs.

The developers of Square Enix spent the last few years working on expanding the iconic franchise through different mainline installments and modern ports or remasters for current-generation hardware. Unfortunately, not all recent projects are available on every platform, and public figures in the gaming industry like Parris Lilley are upset about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake games being exclusive to the PlayStation ecosystem.

Sony Interactive Entertainment drove a hard bargain with Square Enix and secured the future of the remake trilogy on PlayStation consoles for a limited time then these games can be accessed through different gaming platforms like PC and the pixel remasters of the classic games are also available on the Nintendo Switch. However, the Xbox platform is left out again, unsurprisingly, and the exclusion does not amuse the gaming community.

Phil Spencer has been appointed as the head of Microsoft’s gaming division and has made some questionable decisions in the past. Spencer failed to realize that platform users are not only interested in major triple-A titles developed by third-party game developers and the lack of Japanese games makes it a hard sell for the company to appeal to the larger gaming community.

There is no telling what Spencer’s master plan is for the future of Xbox. Not even the pixel remasters of the older Final Fantasy games could leap and will likely encourage players of the rival platform to bite the bullet and secure a PlayStation or a Nintendo Switch to play these beloved games.

Square Enix announced a reprint of physical copies of Final Fantasy 1-6 Collection Anniversary Edition for the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, the frustration of fans stuck with Microsoft is valid and they have been dealt an unfair hand.

Phil Spencer is not the most popular figure in the gaming industry and has a terrible track record of keeping promises. The gaming community has receipts ready to prove that Spencer is playing a different game rather than doing his best to keep the platform afloat, he seems adamant about making the wrong decisions and upsetting the fans even more.

Despite the lack of efforts in the past, there is a slim chance Microsoft turn the situation upside down. Square Enix partnered with Sony with the remake trilogy and it does not mean the company is obligated or tethered to one platform. There is still hope for exclusive content down the line.
