After a very rough couple of weeks for Xbox, finally, Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond, responsible for the brand, talk about the future of the Microsoft Games division. Xbox Game Pass seems to be fine, and only four exclusive titles from Xbox will be multiplatform.

New information confirmed that the 34 million users who use Game Pass are not just from this service; they are a combined number of former Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass users. Xbox Game Pass Core replaces the Live Gold name and is still required to play online games.

Xbox and Xbox Game Pass did not have a consistent number

Xbox Game Pass has roughly about 22 million users according to some new information
Xbox Game Pass has roughly about 22 million users according to some new information

Within the last few weeks, very complicated rumors have lurked about the Xbox brand. Some of these rumors aimed at Xbox not manufacturing more consoles or even publishing all their exclusive content on other platforms. Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond appeared to clarify these rumors and reassure fans that the Xbox ecosystem is well and running smoothly. One of the updates from the responsible team at Xbox was that they were already working on a next-generation console that will be very powerful, and they confirmed that Xbox Game Pass has reached 34 million users.

But thanks to new information shared by The Verge editor Tom Warren, it has been clarified that the 34 million users of Xbox Game Pass are not just from this service. This figure is a combination of Xbox Game Pass Core, also known as Xbox Live Gold, and Game Pass.

This number is not so exciting if you keep in mind that Core is required to play online games. Thanks to some official numbers, Warren revealed the number of users on every service.

Are these some rookie numbers?

For you to play multiplayer online on Xbox, you need some kind of Xbox Game Pass. The core version of Game Pass costs $9.99 on the console and allows you to play 25 games and play online multiplayer. But for you to get the complete catalog of Game Pass, you need to pay $16.99, which includes all the services of Game Pass and also the PC version. So there is some sense in why some players are just using Xbox Game Pass Core.

At the moment, Xbox Game Pass has more than 21 million users, and Xbox Game Pass Core or Xbox Live Gold has more than 12 million users. If you add this to your numbers, you’ll have 34 million users. So this could mean that Xbox Game Pass has not had that many good numbers after all.

Tell us what you think about this. Is Xbox not clear about the success of Game Pass?

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
