Once again, Microsoft has decided to change its strategy to sell more games without relying so heavily on hardware sales. This has led fans to a point of significant frustration, as the Xbox brand doesn’t seem to be making the best decisions regarding its exclusives.
The company’s shifting priorities in just a few months, along with the release of exclusive games on other platforms, have left fans unsatisfied. Some are even comparing the situation to the Xbox One, which, despite its failure, at least had a clear direction.
The Xbox One Wasn’t as Misguided as Everyone Thought
After a very challenging first few months in terms of brand confidence, Microsoft continues to make questionable decisions.
Although confidence was somewhat restored thanks to the event they organized where certain titles were presented, all of this crumbled again after the Opening Night Live presentation at Gamescom 2024, which revealed that Indiana Jones will not be exclusive and will be released on PS5 in 2025.
Fans’ disappointment over the loss of exclusivity is becoming more noticeable on platforms like X. This has reached such a point that some are even reminiscing about the Xbox One, which, despite being a sales failure, had a clear and defined path.

Microsoft Is Alienating Its Own Community
Several users on X have voiced their frustration, claiming that Microsoft’s priorities are utterly misguided. They’ve compared it to how the Xbox One, despite not having outstanding sales, always emphasized software and game exclusivity.
The next few years could end up burying the console itself, making Xbox nothing more than a word forgotten over time. Phil Spencer is receiving a lot of negativity from fans.
Of course, not all comments have been negative, and there are still many fans defending the company despite the recent decisions. One thing often mentioned is that the company still has a vast array of studios to continue producing numerous games, even if they are multiplatform.
Another notable feature is that Game Pass continues to add new titles. These kinds of moves are affecting the brand reputation.
The company’s perceived betrayal in confirming the PlayStation release of certain previously announced exclusive games is one of its major criticisms. Everything indicates that Indiana Jones won’t be the last exclusive game to make its way to the competitor’s platform.
In the coming years, many players predict that Sony’s platform will continue to release titles like Starfield and other Bethesda games.
