After many speculations, leaks, and rumors, Microsoft, the new owners of Activision Blizzard, are ready to announce the new Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War. This will presumably happen in the upcoming Xbox Summer Showcase, which will be on June 9.

The event will feature all the brand updates, showcasing new games, IPs, and potential future releases. This will also include the popular FanFest event, where the showcase will happen live. Fans are eagerly awaiting new titles and some release date confirmations.

With more than a month of anticipation, Microsoft has just revealed the event where the updates and new games will be introduced. On June 9, Microsoft will host the Xbox Summer Showcase, followed by a new “Redacted” event featuring an unannounced game. There is a very high chance that this game will be Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, the new installment in the Treyarch franchise.

Rumors are circulating that this new event will reveal a lot of information about this new entry in the FPS genre. The symbol in the promoted image has proven to be part of the lore. The next event, a “special deep dive” into the next installment of a beloved franchise, comes after the showcase concludes, introducing all the new updates from the Xbox IPs. This clearly talks about the Activision Blizzard saga.

The Xbox Summer Showcase Will Be the First Big Event After the Activision Blizzard Acquisition

This showcase could really change the approach that Microsoft wants to take toward the Call of Duty franchise. In the past, there was a deal of exclusivity with PlayStation regarding some content and how certain things would be first on the Sony platforms. Activision Blizzard urgently needs this new entry in the franchise to be a hit, especially after the disastrous launch of Modern Warfare 3 and the negative feedback from players about its repetitive content.

The rumors are saying that Black Ops Gulf War will be a continuation of the second game in this saga, with many old characters coming back to reprise their roles. At the moment, only a few modifications to some Warzone modes have surfaced, but this game ought to prioritize a deeper narrative rather than merely incorporating battle royale elements into the story, as MW3 did last year. Treyarch is the studio behind this game.

As for the original Xbox IPs, fans are waiting for the release date of games like Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl and the reveal of a possible Gears 6 game. Microsoft could also present new IPs that will be launched in the next two years. There are many possibilities for this event, and the company really needs a powerful game that will improve console and hardware sales in general.

What are your thoughts about the showcase? Let us know in the comments!

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
