Ubisoft’s newest online shooter, XDefiant, has finally arrived and experiments with different game modes that fans may be familiar with. XDefiant has drawn inspiration from countless online co-op shooter experiences.
There’s one mode in particular that fans have been eager to see in the game, and it’s no other than Search and Destroy. Many believe that this mode has kept Call of Duty so much fun through the years, and undoubtedly, it might just do the same for XDefiant.
XDefiant’s Executive Producer Has Confirmed Exciting Information
The game’s executive producer, Mark Rubin, recently confirmed that the game will certainly see the arrival of a game mode that’s similar to Search and Destroy. Mark has previously tested his mettle working on the Call of Duty franchise, so this isn’t his first time implementing a game mode like this.
Given how his lessons from the game dev process are going to actualize into a new game, it’s likely that the live-service shooter will remain open to new ideas over the coming months.
Search and Destroy is a game mode that’s popularised by quick action and a high-risk-high-reward mindset. When the objectives are clear and teams are essentially pitted against one another in smaller spaces, players tend to shuffle between a strategic playstyle and being aggressive.
To have a mode like this in XDefiant could certainly help the game attract even more players and keep the game fresh and fun. While there’s no exact date for when this mode will be coming to us, it’s a relief to know that at least it’s in the works.
Search and Destroy With the Added Ubisoft Flair
As exciting as it may seem to make a complete comparison between the two games, Ubisoft’s approach to this may be a little different from what we expect. When it comes to Call of Duty, players can expect a realistic approach to battle where their reflexes are tested to a point where weapons and gadgets merely become tools, and not a representation of skill.
However, in the case of XDefiant, gameplay shifts gears when players have to be aware of how their character uses a set of unique skills in the midst of battle. This makes the learning curve a bit complicated for those unfamiliar with this kind of gameplay.
At the same time, people who have been playing games like Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege can likely balance character-based gameplay with the traditional skills of using different weapons in-game. Only time will tell how the player base responds to this.
