XDefiant, the upcoming first-person shooter from Ubisoft hasn’t been blessed with a smooth process regarding its release. The game was initially slated to launch by the end of the summer but was unexpectedly hit with refusal from Xbox and PlayStation as it did not meet the certification requirements, delaying the release.

This refusal forced the team to go back to the drawing board to fix the game’s backend for launching on consoles. This hinted at the arrival of XDefiant sometime in October and it seems like that is what’s going to happen, just in time to face off a major Call of Duty event.

XDefiant recently held public test sessions that saw players jumping onto open servers to test the might of the game. The game looked better than what it was in beta testing, but Ubisoft hasn’t announced an official release date yet.

However, as per the post by leaker el_bobberto on X, XDefiant “is supposedly set to release on October 17th”, given that there were “no new problems found in the September 28th playtest.” If the claim turns out to be true, the release date of XDefiant will bring it head-to-head with Call of Duty.

A major Call of Duty event called ‘The Haunting’ will drop on the same day in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone. This Halloween-themed event will mark the arrival of several new operators, weapons, and much more.

The game will also launch just a day after the end of Modern Warfare 3 beta, making it an interesting choice of launch date to battle it out with Call of Duty. This confirms that Ubisoft is confident about what it has done with the game and wants to gain the attention of the FPS community.

While Ubisoft is trying its best to be a competitor to Call of Duty with the new FPS title, it would still be a bold move from it to face off with Call of Duty, especially when Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 would be releasing in a few weeks. In an update after QA rejections, Executive Producer of the game, Mark Ruben stated that the game’s release has been delayed till October, however, he did not give a certain date.

There is no official announcement yet but if the playtest has gone as Ubisoft expected, XDefiant could actually launch on the rumored date. As for leaks and claims from el_bobberto, the leaker has previously shared a few details about COD Modern Warfare 3 about its gear and those have been confirmed so far. It remains to be seen how it turns out with this one.
