James Gunn has been the epitome of several blockbusters, including MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. Having already solidified his position as an impeccable filmmaker, he recently kickstarted his journey as a co-CEO at DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, with the duo having new plans for the franchise.

He has already shared his high anticipation and great future ahead for the first-ever live-action Latino superhero film. The Hollywood Handle has shared a tweet stating that the former has already announced Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle will likely be making his appearance in the franchise’s future.

Meanwhile, Gunn has already addressed the same on Instagram as he wrote,

“I can’t wait for audiences to meet Jaime Reyes, who will be an amazing part of the DCU going forward.”

Even the Blue Beetle’s post-credit scene has also depicted his return alongside the new set of adventures it will explore in the upcoming future. Not just that, he could also be in the lineup for his Justice League. However, given the impressive vision Gunn had for his ‘first DCU superhero,’ the box-office numbers are saying otherwise.

While fans are already seeing the box-office performance of the recent DCU releases, including the disastrous The Flash, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Angel Manuel Soto’s directorial is the studio’s new hope. However, the results hint that the project’s box-office earnings are not performing as well as it was earlier reported that it was about to be approximately $30 million in its opening weekend. Although, the current report suggests that it is now expected to close the weekend between $25 million and $27 million.

Despite the terrific results, it has not managed to topple Barbie which has already crossed the $1B benchmark in its theatrical run. Unfortunately, DCU films are unable to meet theatrical run expectations as Ezra Miller’s film was a major failure earning only $269 million with a production budget of at least $265 million. Even, Shazam! Fury of the Gods was barely able to cross its production budget by earning only $134 million at the box office. However, the condition can be changed since it has received positive reviews from critics and moviegoers which could mean that there is still room for improvement.
