The Thor: Ragnarok’s actress Cate Blanchett recently took her fourth Golden Globes Award back home. Previously, Blanchett has been honored with two Academy Awards, 3 BAFTA, two primetime Emmy awards and many more accolades. The Golden Age star has a new addition to her awards & achievements list but this is not an award. After the exhibition of her brilliant acting skills in Tár, the legendary actress has been proclaimed a “lesbian icon”. In an interview where she was told about her position in the LGBTQ+ community and her title of “lesbian icon”, to which she responded by gratefully accepting the title.
“Yeah, baby! That’s so nice, don’t know what it means, but it’s nice. Yeah, cool, I’ll take it.”

Cate Blanchett’s Iconic Lesbian Roles
Before Tár Blanchett has portrayed lesbian characters in Carol and Notes on a Scandal and has been praised for both. Despite being a heterosexual woman and being married to a man, the Carol actress is perceived highly in the LGBTQ+ community for not downplaying the already set lesbian stereotypes on screen. Despite the fact that the LGBTQ+ community wants to see a real-life homosexual person playing the role of a reel-life homosexual character, Blanchett was still able to successfully earn the community’s heart and won her title of “lesbian icon”.
Not to forget the efforts made by the Elizabeth star who worked hard through her acting to claim that title. Blanchett brought justice to her lesbian characters and has constantly remained vocal to support and normalize homosexuality.

Cate Blanchett Shares her Feelings on Tár
The Blue Jasmine star shares her feelings on playing a strong, talented lesbian character. The star shared that rather than focusing on the sexuality of the character the story revolves around power and strength, presuming the generalization of homosexuality.
“The characters are so nuanced. We had a lot of time to discuss their backstory in great detail and to make that manifest in what they did. What I love about the story that Todd wrote and the way he directed it and the way we approached it is their same-sex relationship just was. It’s not the subject matter of the film, nor are the characters’ genders. It’s a meditation on power, but of course, the landscape has changed enormously since we made ‘Carol.’ When we made ‘Carol,’ there were so few films that were moving over into the mainstream that dealt with same-sex relationships, and also picking it apart so it’s not a monolithic experience. I think ‘Tár’ could only have been made now. It couldn’t have been made and viewed in a mainstream audience 20 years ago.”

Tár, who got ratings of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes is a psychological drama that is centered around a lesbian character named Lydia Tár played by Cate Blanchett, who is an EGOT composer, and an icon in the music world. Just days away from recording the symphony to wing her career, the main character is accused of sexual misconduct with young musicians during the #MeToo Movement. This story of Lydia Tár is well justified by Blanchett’s brilliant acting which continues to impress the audience.
